Topic: Reality: AMC vs The Chew

Additional Comments: The Chew is beating AMC in terms of viewers.  At 50% less cost.  ABC made a GREAT decision in cancelling AMC.  Mr. Frons is surely getting $$$$$$ added to his salary over this decision!

Well, the Chew once again beat AMC in viewers from last year.  This is for Thanksgiving week.  As I leave ABC with a bonus of millions of dollars, thank you loyal fans or tuning into my baby of ABC Daytime, The Chew.  I'm forever grateful!

Correct, Brian. The Chew is a relative success. It could drop in viewership by almost half and still improve the bottom line for ABC. I find it interesting that the supposed boycott of The Chew by AMC viewers has fallen flat on its face. So much for the loyalty of soap fans, huh? But so few fans are left anyway.

  • You must be somebody that got fired from AMC for not keeping their bathrooms clean which explains the anger. / TM
  • Ally and Frons are one and the same poster. What kind of madness must a person's life have to continue spewing this crap on a defunct soap opera's discussion board? Seriously?? Do not feed or engage the TROLLS!!!!
  • Meh. Most people aren't that loyal to their tv shows. If a show is on, great. If it isn't, they'll either watch what's on or find entertainment elsewhere. People chatting on the internet about boycotting ABC or The Chew are a very small minority of fans. The fact that The Chew is *barely* holding on to as many viewers as AMC had is no indication of viewers' loyalty or lack thereof.
  • jmc: While it may be true w/primetime shows, that there are few fans who are that loyal to the shows they watch. But that kind of loyalty w/the fanbase was always a part of what set the daytime & primetime audiences apart. The daytime fan base WAS 'that loyal' to their shows, mostly because they were part of their lives more than primetime & there were soaps (daytime) that had multi-generations of fans, some of whom had grown up w/the previous generations' favorite shows, which wasn't the case w/primetime. Daytime has always been a much more intimate medium than primetime. Daytime fans have also seen characters on soaps evolve over the decades, so they feel much more connected to the characters. That was what made the changes dictated by Suits w/a primetime mentality so insulting & painful for so many fans. They didn't 'get it' & still don't. They think that the audiences are comparable, when they are far from it! eom
  • Oh, of course. Someone who says something you don't like must be a troll or a stinky bathroom cleaner. How classy. You ever stop to think that your rude comments are the reason that someone like Brian Frons posts here? Frankly, I'm feeling more sympathy for him than for you rude whiners at this point.
  • Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.
  • Ally, you (Kettle/Fronz) were the one who was rude in the first place, and you don't even know it, LOL.. TM

If this were even remotely true you wouldn't feel the need to keep posting over and over again. It's NOT true and the show is awful but you keep on posting until you GET A LIFE!!!

  • It was posted at TVbytheNumbers website that tracks the ratings this last Monday.
  • The numbers right now are (temporarily) better because the holidays are so near and people are looking for special Xmas recipes on ALL the food shows. But after New Year's, expect The Chew is drop back to its usual dismal ratings. Understatement
  • Understatement: ICAM! However, I find that I like Mario Batali in every other venue than I have in the 2-3 episodes of The Chew that I've seen. I REALLY liked his tour of Spain on PBS w/Gwenyth Paltrow & Mark Bittman. I never was a fan of Paltrow til I saw the Spain show (watched it 3 times). eom
  • It doesn't really matter if the numbers are ''temporarily better'' as long as they're around the same, because they've still improved the bottom line with a much cheaper show that can get the same ad rates. And even if this is temporary, there are several holidays throughout the year when food becomes topical.
