Topic: Mario Battglio(The Chew) collapsed the bed on-set the other day.

Additional Comments: I saw a clip of it somewhere, because I wouldn't watch that crappy show if someone paid me.  The entire cast were in two beds at some point in the show, and the bed Mario was in collapsed. He didn't seem too embarrassed or surprised. I'll bet that's happened to him before. Couldn't happen to a nicer dude. I still remember him laughing at the soap fans who were upset when AMC was cancelled. Nyah-nyah.  I realize this isn't a very grown-up reaction but I don't care.

Mario's is rather overweight so I am sure that the bed buckeled from all that weight.  The poor bed.  Sorry, but someone that obese should not be cooking unhealthy foods on a daily basis.

  • He isn't obese, he is fat. There is a BIG difference. Actually, in the last few yrs he has lost weight. He is certainly not so fat that ANY bedframe should break. Actually, the people I've known who have had bedframes collapse on them weren't heavy at all! eom
  • He is fat and looks greasy, like he never bathes. I'm sure that he doesn't smell too pleasant. You know, that body odor that overweight people have. Yuck.
  • Bea: Not every overweight person has body odor issues. I don't know where your 'opinion' comes from but most chefs ARE overweight & most of them don't have body odor issues. MB's job isn't to be movie star handsome, it is to be a chef & give people who ask advice on food. eom
  • I agree with Bea on this. He may BE clean but he just doesn't APPEAR to be clean for some reason JMO. MM
  • Well, a good 95% of very overweight people that I have been near have an odor that is not pleasant. Mario just looks unclean.
  • Bea: Not only is your statement offensive, it is untrue. I have lost over 125 lbs & attended OA for over 25 yrs. There were MAYBE 2-3 people w/body odor issues in all of that time. I'm talking about people who had an array of eating disorders. I also attended meetings at some of the hospitals in the area that had eating disorder clinics in them & I NEVER experienced an odor problem. 95% of the overweight people out there have odor problems? It is YOUR perception that it is there. I've had friends of different ethnicities told by strangers that they smell, when they don't. It is all about how you come to a situation. eom
  • Ah, that's why you're so defensive. You probably have/had that fat person odor that I'm talking about. I get it now.
  • You don't get anything and that's, most likely, the reason YOU are what you are.

I highly highly doubt that the bed collapse was staged.  They just wouldn't do that.  But, given Mario's large size, I'm sure he wasn't surprised because I'm sure that many beds have collapsed with him on them.

  • Are you kidding?! They DEFINITELY would stage such a thing. To those simpletons at ABC, this would be considered high brow entertainment. eom
  • And there you have it! The expert on EVERYTHING, who didn't even see the episode of The Chew in question, has ALL the answers. NOT. I emailed Mario and asked him and that was definitely not staged, And there you have the real facts.
  • Erica: We're supposed to believe that a man who is running 20 restaurants, writing cookbooks, doing a book tour & cohosting a talk show had the time to email you about something as trivial as whether or not the collapsing bed was staged?! I didn't say I was an expert, I said that I looked at his face & there wasn't a moment of being startled, which happens naturally when something like that happens. He KNEW it was going to happen, period. eom
  • Instead of embarassing yourself further, email him yourself to prove yourself wrong. Or better yet, send him a message on Twitter. He answers questions there. You can easily find out that you are wrong in your assumptions.
  • Erica, Erica, Erica: Talk about embarrassing yourself!! I DO know, from personal experience, that resteraunteurs & folks at Batali's level are VERY busy & they have assistants to answer their emails & manage their twitter accounts. They DON'T have the time to answer their email, tweats & do everything that they need to get done in a day. Just running ONE restaurant is grueling work that often takes 18 hours out of someone's day, that is just one restaurant. Not 20 something, plus writing cookbooks, doing personal appearances, traveling the country & being a regular part of the casts of more than one show! There are just 24 hours in everyone's day, including his. That you want to believe that he personally answers you is YOUR delussion, not mine. MB is an empire all of its own. Running it isn't a part time, one man job. eom
  • Ugh. You're an extremely frustrating and obviously crazy person. Mario DOES answer his tweets himself. Look at this twitter account sometime. And he has spoken on The Chew about this. Since you don't watch the show, you wouldn't know that. I'll take Mario's word over yours.
  • LOL, I love this - I really thought with the soaps going off the air there would be no more of these hilarious back and forths with

Chances are it was staged, which was why he reacted that way.  It wasn't a surprise.

I don't understand why he lowers himself to this crap!  He has over 20 restaurants, numerous cookbooks & has done quite well as a guest on other (better) cooking shows & cable.  He is SO much better than this.

Despite what he says about 'the team' having 'great chemistry', I haven't seen it.  Granted I've only caught the show about a handful of times & never for a full episode, but I see zero chemistry w/the hosts.

  • It wasn't staged.
  • I do not think it was staged. For whatever reason, the bed being faulty or Mario himself, it just gave in. MM
  • I've seen people on a bed when it collapsed & there is a look that happens when it is spontaneous that just didn't happen to either of them on that bed. Why Batali allows himself to be so disrespected is beyond me. It isn't as though he needs the $$. eom
  • In the commercials for the show Batali seems to have an unkempt look. He really isn't but he just has that look IMO naturally somehow. It's odd. MM.
  • But that is how he ALWAYS looks. Watch him on other shows. He looked like that on Iron Chef, on Rachael Ray, in the PBS project touring Spain. In every interview or promotion for any project or book I've seen him in he has looked the same. He just seems, IMO, to be more comfortable everywhere but on The Chew. eom
  • I guess that's his ''signature look'' LOL. He wants to appear ''unkempt casual''? MM
  • LOL MM. Botali or however you spell his name, is a real mess. There's nothing attractive about him - from his clothes, to shoes to hair to weight. Nothing.
  • Glee: He's doing just fine, just the way he is. eom
  • I'm sure he's a millionaire so he's obviously doing something right. MM
  • What good is all of his mllions going to do him when he drops from a heart attack?
  • He really could stand to lose some weight which must be hard with so much food around him all the time. MM

Mario had a reason to laugh at the soap fans.  The Chew is getting more viewers than AMC got.

  • Did telling me that make you feel better? LyndaL
  • What Charm School did you go to ''Brian'' ???
  • Brian Frons is an a$$, and anyone who would use his name can't be much better. So sorry that your standards are so very low that this is who you pick for your hero. You are the one to be pitied..
  • Mean spirited people like this with small minds and nasty hearts say insignificant things. We need to feel sorry for this 'Brian Frons' person that posts these posts on the board because obviously, they have no life so they want to make others unhappy too. Pathetic person./Cari
  • I think Brian's response is fair. The original post is mean spirited, meant to poke fun at someone. You don't want a 'mean' reply? Don't make a snotty post in the first place.
  • I think that ''Brian'' just wants to rub salt in our wounds and is very gleeful for whatever ''good'' numbers he can find for The Spew. MM
  • I beg to differ that the original post was 'snotty'. I just reported what happened. He was on a bed and it collapsed. I didn't say WHY it collapsed or anything else. I did, however, repeat his reaction to fans being upset that their soap was cancelled. And that's pretty fair, no? Besides, we shouldn't snipe at each other but just be happy anyone is still posting on this site. No one on this board had anything to do with cancelling the soaps and killing a genre, so peace out. LyndaL
  • There was very obviously nothing 'snotty' in that Post. MM
