Miss.B, you only forget those things if you don't care. If you care about English grammar and usage you remember. I did. Of course, I've forgotten every bit of trig I ever learned, but then people don't communicate with Math. /SheilaT

That was fun, I got the Midlands (no accent, but of course, I'm Canadian and we don't have an accent :)
I read this on Wikipedia so I guess the test is pretty accurate: Canada has very little dialect diversity compared to the United States.[4] The phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and lexicon for most of Canada are similar to that of the Western and Midland regions of the United States
I saw a documentary one time about a man with amnesia (sounds like AMC...) but they tried to pinpoint what area of the US he was from by his accent as well as local phrases etc he used. It was really interesting and they managed to narrow it down to a very small area.

Said I had a Midland accent or no accent at all.... on another note I took the True Texan test and only got 42% HA... I've lived in TX all my life but the questions it had were really stupid. AND some were WRONG anyway.

I agree with Grandma. I'm a native Texan and the test results were wrong. Holly

It said I was from the Northeast. That's a pretty huge region! I was raised in Maryland (DC suburb) but born in Massachusetts, and both my parents were born and raised there. I and all my sibs talk like a mix between MA and DC . . .perfect, in other words LOL!

I was also born in Massachusetts (Brookline) but lived in Brooklyn, NY my whole life. MM
Correcting: Lived in Brooklyn most of my life. I've been in South Florida the last eighteen years. MM
I don't know how it was able to detect where I was from. Maybe it was because I answered all the questions correctly and they figured I must be from up north near the Great Lakes where there are no accents, it's true.

Hey Isis, I'll share that cheesesteak with you! Even though I've been in Florida more than half my life, it still detected my native Philly accent. Cool!

I was told I was from the inland north. It said something like I may think I speak English out of the dictionary(I do) but when I step out of the Great Lakes area am asked if I am from Chicago or Wisconsin. It also said I probably refer to carbonated beverages as "pop". So true! I rarely exist the Great Lakes area but on the rare occasion I do I have been asked where I was from, and I DO refer to my carbonated beverages as "pop". I am from the Chicago area, we don't have accents, everyone else does.

Mine said Midland...then ended with ''...but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas.'' I think that my accent is all over the place because of all the places I lived when I was an Air Force Wife. I know that I don't have the same accent as all my siblings who have all lived mostly in Texas.

My results were "Midland" and that I probably don't have an accent? But I'm a native Californian, so go figure.
