All My Children Discussion Group
It's that time of year again! The start of the search for the next American Idol! The same judges are back again and I hope they judge better this year.
I don't know if I will put a topic on each week at the beginning unless something happens that would be worthy of discussions. I will see how it goes and play it by ear. I might put something on again once they get to Hollywood, but I think I will mostly begin the topic post when we get to the Top 20.
For tonight the first auditions were from Savannah, Georgia and tomorrow the auditions will be from Pittsburgh.
If you forgot about it tonight and want to see what you missed, here are some video recaps to the auditionees tonight ~ Savannah Auditions – Recap and Videos
Several weren't bad but no one blew my socks off just yet. The first guy, David, wasn't too bad but looks younger than 17 and doesn't even sound 17.
One 15 year old girl, Gabi, had to give Nigel Lythgoe, who was sitting off to the side, a hug before she began.
Then there was the guy, Shaun, who looked and sounded just like Ryan Seacrest. He could take over for Ryan if Ryan couldn't make a show. Especially if rumors are true that this is Ryan's last season. (See Ryan Seacrest Launching a TV Network) He probably sang like Ryan, too, because he didn't make it although I thought he was better than a girl later on, Ashlee, that they let through, I think, only for her personality. JMO
Another 15 year old girl, Shannon Magrane, is the daughter of an ex-St. Louis Cardinals pitcher that the judges wanted to meet. When he shook hands with Steven and asked Steven how it was in "Beantown", Steven replied that it was "hot, humid and happening just like your daughter" in which everyone fell silent and Randy gave Steven a strange look. You don't tell a father something like that about his daughter. Especially coming from a 63 year old rocker!
After several good auditions, we finally had one bad one. Jessica Whitley seemed to take the news okay until as she left she told the judges that she would see them in Texas. Randy wondered if it was possible to not let her through once they get to Texas. We'll see what happens there, but I don't see how she figures that she can get the judges approval there instead.
Two others were the emotional stories of the night. One girl, Amy, lives with her boyfriend in a tent in the woods because they can't afford an apartment. She even gives a tour of their tent and area. Another guy, W.T., whose wife is six months pregnant, quit his job in hopes of making it here to give his baby something better than whatever he was earning. I hate when people gamble like that.
Others were interesting and the last person was an either you loved him or hated him. He wasn't great on his first song done a cappella like usual. But because he had brought in his guitar, they let him sing a second song while playing his guitar. There he seemed to do better and they let him through because of that. His name was also unique--Phillip Phillips. Oh, and that's Jr. His father is Phillip Phillips, Sr.

I enjoyed seeing the 3 judges again and Ryan... I can't even imagine what it must be like to sit there all day long listening to probably mostly bad people... some were very good, others just eh... they will get weeded out later. The baseball girl... yikes, that was a stupid comment he made and probably regretted it. Phillip Phillips... like you said, the first song did not blow me away... however, when he played the guitar he reminded me of a Dave Matthews type musician... I didn't even realize until he sang the words... Thriller... knew I had heard the song before but his version was very good. He's cute and I liked Steven's comment about Casey w/ an arrow or something... I will be paying attention to him.
thanks for the schedule too... ; )
