What is "ah"? Answer: a letter between q and s.

I'm goin' down cellar.

I'm thirsty. Is there a bubbla anywhere around here?

I was prit near a mile down the road when my cah ran outta gas!

RI person giving directions using now-defunct landmarks: Go to the end of the block to where the I-Hop used to be, turn left and go about a mile and you'll see that factory building where the thrift shop used to be, and turn left at the light...

I have a great idear!

H-weet thins. [Check out that Wheat Thins commercial that uses Stuey and Brian from Family Guy. Stuey's talking pure Rhode Island-ese!]

Leave it lay where Jesus flang it! [That one isn't just restricted to Rhode Island but it's priceless.]

So you like eating at Haven Brothers? So don't I.

Oh yeah!  Born in Connecticut... My sister adds the 'er' to everything.  She once told me that her son was, ''Scuber diving in Aruber.''  LOL!  The funniest thing is when she says diarrhea.  She says 'dia-rear.'

It's caw-fee not cough-ee.

Aunt not ant

Grinders not subs or hoagies.

Soda not pop.  When we visited relatives in Boston it was 'tonic.'

  • Actually, did you know that Chicago does not have an accent? I just looked it up and we don't have an accent. We speak standard American English. I kinda knew that anyway. I enjoy listening to others, it's cute. This has been a fun topic.
  • LOL! I say caw-fee. That's very southern New England. Understatement
  • Lol! Born and raised in CT. It's CAW fee and Dawg. Nice dawg. Now your talking.
  • What!!! Where in Ct. were you born and raised? Anita (Rocky Hill) Lyfe eom

LMAO!  So many of these remind me of my cousins, who grew up (and mostly still live) in Southbridge MA.  Thanks for the sentimental journey.

  • Oh, and the one about giving directions is pure Maine . . . my brother has lived there for 20 years and he loves to regale us with such tales. /SheilaT
  • Many people in Fort Worth do the same thing with directions.....thank goodness. When I moved back here after years away, the ''used to be Monnings or Weatherford traffic circle'' were the things I remembered!!eom/Tex
  • But for my brother it was quite problematic when he first moved there. He didn't know where Farmer Brown's old oak tree used to be LOL. /SheilaT
