Additional Comments:

These stills were released from the new Dark Shadows movie.  JD plays Barnabas Collins; not sure what character Michelle Pfeiffer is playing.

The movie is set for release on May 11th.  As a fan of the original Dark Shadows series, I'm looking forward to it even though I'm not a big Tim Burton fan.

So, ladies, what do you think?

Wow. Dark Shadows was my all-time favorite show, back when the world (and I) were both very young. I can't wait to see the new movie. Johnny Depp is wonderfully weird and quirky, so he should make a fabulous Barnabas Collins!

  • I think so, too. Like I said, not a big TB fan but JD always does a great job. ~i&b
  • I'm with you I&B - next time I see Johnny I'm gonna have to get him away from Tim. eom/Weeeeee

I think JD will be a very cool Barnabas Collins.  I read in one of the promos that Michelle Pfeiffer is playing Elizabeth Stoddard.  It looks like a good cast so we'll see.  I'm there for sure.

  • Maybe you could Google Dark Shadows and learn a bit about the fabulous TV series of the 1960s. Then you might enjoy the movie and Johnny when it comes out. It's a good idea to stretch your brain to consider things outside your comfort zone now and then. /SheilaT
  • The original DS series is a lot of fun. Very campy, especially as it goes on. You can watch it on youtube. The earliest episodes are black & white but it goes to color after a season or two. ~i&b
  • Sorry Lemerba, my post above belongs down below under Miss. Bear's post. /SheilaT

I don't know anything about Dark Shadows so I probably won't enjoy the movie even if Johnny is in it.

  • Miss.Bear, Netflix has 40 episodes streaming. //SM
  • I'll watch the episodes but not the movie. I am actually kind of sick of Tim Burton. The only movie he ever did without JD is Nightmare Before Christmas. If there's another let me know. He seems to be lacking original ideas because all his movies seem the same now.
  • Tim Burton will probably let JD do it his way and the movie will be great, any JD movie is great. /goldie
  • It's all the same. JD always plays some make up wearing freak in every one of his movies.
  • I find TB's work to be a mixed bag. I think Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissorhands, and Ed Wood were all great. //SqueezeMe
  • I like some of his movies too. Edward Scissorhands was an original(meaning not a remake of anything) probably the last original one he did. I love Nightmare Before Christmas which was quite creative and original. It just seems to me his movies are getting quite repetitive. Every one of them stars JD in the lead role with him in full makeup and he has done nothing but remakes for about the last ten years now. The only original since then was probably Corpse Bride which I did enjoy but it wasn't nearly as good as Nightmare Before Christmas.
  • I'm curious to see what he will do with ''Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.'' It's due out this year, and it's based on the book by the same name. //SqueezeMe
  • I would bet that JD will play the lead role in full make up(yawn!) I will be shocked if he doesn't.
  • Well, ladies, it's obvious Miss. Bear is no longer interested in Johnny. I'm going to take over her claim as of THIS VERY MINUTE! /SheilaT
  • My critisizm is not with Johnny, it's with Tim Burton. His movies are becomming predictable. He just does remakes with JD as his lead character in full makeup. I wouldn't be surprised if he does the Munsters next with JD playing as his lead role in all his make up. You heard it here first. As far as JD goes, he a great actor, one of the best and he is hot.
  • ......I am plenty interested in Johnny. He's mine.
  • Benjamin Walker has the lead in the Lincoln movie, and Depp isn't in it. I think ''The Munsters'' is currently in development as a t.v. series. //SqueezeMe
  • Really?? I'm surprised! I don't even know who Benjamin Walker is. This will be his second movie without JD. I bet he considered him for the role.
  • Burton made ''Big Fish'' (an awesome movie), three Batman movies, ''Beetlejuice'' and ''Pee Wee's Big Adventure'' without Depp. He also has a Deppless movie called ''Frankenweenie'' coming out this year. //SM
  • Ah, you're right, I forgot about Beetlejuice and haven't heard of the others. That was before JD was really that well known. The last 10 years he has done nothing but JD movies and remakes. That's nuts.
  • Oh yeah he did Batman, of course I know that one. Not my kind of movie. I forgot he did that one.
  • 'Big Fish' ( a wonderful movie . . .catch it on Netflix or whatever) was less than 10 years ago and Johnny Depp has been really well known and a hot commodity for way longer than that. And you might think you still have Johnny but I like him in everything. Have you seen 'The Man Who Cried' yet? No makeup, no Tim Burton. He is HOT in it! I would recommend that even over 'Big Fish
  • Drat those quotes! Any way, see The Man Who Cried. Excellent story, Johnny is HOT in it!!! /SheilaT
  • I think I have that one on Netflix. Johnny is mine, I have a poster of him in my room, and many T shirts with him on it. In fact I am wearing him now. He was in my neck of the woods a few years ago, just one town over when he was doing Public Enemies. I was so close to him, ahhh.
  • Hope you enjoyed it, Miss. B., because he's going to be with me for a while now LOL. /SheilaT

Perfect role for Johnny Depp, I saw him in an interview once where he said he will only take a role in a movie if he can play it his way, the way he feels it, and his movies are always the best. He looks too young to be Barnabas Collins though, maybe he is playing him in his younger days.

He looks great as Barnabus - completely relatable (sp?).  This is one I'm definitely going to see. Remember, Langly from AMC was on the show way back when?

  • That's right! Louis Edmonds was the actor's name. He played Roger Collins on DS and later, Prof. Langley Wallingford on AMC. I met him, years ago, at a DS Convention and he was a hoot! Very amusing guy. Understatement

I read an article about the new Dark Shadows in Entertainment Weekly.  It said the story had been updated --- to the 1970s.  Check out Michelle Pfeiffer's clothes and hair in your pic.

And she's playing Elizabeth Collins Stoddard!  Well, she's no Joan Bennett.  That's one humungous double-lacquered beehive bouffant to live up to!

I was coming here to post other upcoming movie news. Saw these pics in Entertainment Weekly along with shots from YOUR movie opening May 4th.

Johnny looks so good as Barnabas. He said he'd run home from school as a boy to catch Dark Shadows.

  • I read the article too. I'm looking forward to seeing this. izi
  • I just looked it up. It's another Tim Burton/Johnny Depp movie. So predictable. There is way too many Johnny Depp and Tim Burton movies.
