It's a good year for movies and acting.  So many left out who really turned in some great performances. And only two 'Best Song' nominations. What the hey!

  • The song category and score used to be favorites but not any more. Haven't agreed on most wins in a long while. Other than that - yes exciting year BUT what happened with all the Ryan Gosling talk? Three films and he comes up empty? Geez. eom/WE

I can't even believe Midnight in Paris was nominated.  Maybe the worst movie I've seen in a couple of years.  Woody Allen has gone from being one of my favorite directors to one whose movies I tend to avoid.

Is Moneyball on DVD yet?  I'd love to see that.

  • Hey Annie, I LOVED Midnight in Paris . . .but then I love Paris LOL. I also enjoyed Money Ball -- does that mean you won't :)? Not sure if it's out on DVD yet. /SheilaT
  • Oh no - I just got MIP on netflix. I've only read good things BUT I will say I'm not pleased with his current favorites in recent years. Not a ScarJo or Owen fan. Well I'll see it anyway it's here. eom/WE

Thanks for the list. I'm really excited about the nominated movies this year. I have only seen 3 of them so far -- The Help, The Descendants and The Iron Lady -- and they are definitely worth it. The acting is so excellent.

I'm looking forward to seeing so many of these movies and I don't always feel that way about the nominations for the Academy Awards. I really want to see War Horse, The Artist, Midnight in Paris, My Week with Marilyn, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Albert Nobbs -- I hardly ever go to the theater anymore but I hope to see some of them by February 26. This is an exciting year for the Academy Awards!!

  • I hope to see most of these movies before 2/26. I'll be seeing Midnight In Paris this week and My Week With Marilyn. DO see The Artist - it's wonderful. Saw a long preview for Albert Nobbs and will see that as soon as I can. I watch on Netflix, On Demand and this time of year at the theater - that's the only way I can see enough since the nominations are only little over a month before the AAs air. eom/WE

Thanks W.E. I'm looking forward to the show.
I was surprised that Leo didn't get a nomination for his role. From the reviews that I read he was very good.

  • Some I read didn't like the make-up and thought that made him cartoonish even though his performance was there. A shame. Hey next up? Leo plays The Great (Jay) Gatsby and his BFF Tobey McGuire plays Nick. I'm there. Read the book several times and have seen every movie version. eom/WE
  • Looking forward to those two! Eve

Thanks WE!  I'm satisfied with the nominations in general, although I would've like to have seen Ides of March up for Best Picture and maybe an acting nom of two ( Clooney, Gosling, Hoffman, Giamatti, Tomei . . . ).  But then, the ones nominated were pretty darn strong.  An embarrassment of riches, perhaps?

I haven't seen Albert Nobbs or Incredibly Loud  yet, and somehow missed A Better Life.  Will see what I can do about catching those films soon!

  • Oh, I never saw Bridesmaids either . . . neither my sister nor my husband was interested in it! /SheilaT`
  • It was supposed to be the year of Gosling and he got nothing out of three starring roles. I saw previews for Albdert Nobbs (Bitt didn't even realize it was her until they showed her name). Incredibly Loud just opened (in time). That's why I told my sis it will be a sleeper (maybe sneaker, heh) for oscar. I am a Damien fan and have stated HE is the entire picture (A Better Life). If you watch you will see a fine performance but no one else (imo) in the film lives up to his talent. So excited for him. WAIT until you see what he really looks like at the ceremony (woof). eom/WE
  • Thanks for the tips, WE . . . I'll try to find A Better Life so I can feel up on things Oscar night. And maybe Bridesmaids on TV? /SheilaT
  • Oh yeah you'll enjoy it. I won't say I agree with all the hoopla but it was good and Melissa was excellent. eom/WE
  • See Bridesmaids! It is make you laugh! Eve

  • I read an article yesterday on comedies and Oscar. Very interesting and Melissa gave some comments. So happy as she, for me, was the funniest part along with her real life husband. Tough category but she got the nomination. eom/WE
