The Republicans just don't have a good lineup of candidates this time around.  Everyone on the list is a lame duck, one way or another. As for Newt...the mind boggles that he's even in the running. Newt is a serial adulterer. He left Wife#1 (when the poor woman had cancer) for Wife #2. He later left Wife #2 for Wife #3 because Wife #2 wouldn't tolerate a menage a trois or "open marriage."  And everyone remembers how viciously he attacked Bill Clinton, back in the day, for doing exactly the same sort of things that Newt himself has done. So add hypocrisy to his already impressive list of sins. He's now trumpeting himself as a Born Again Christian, but IMO that's all for show. He'd call himself "First Church of Dagon," probably, if it were the way to get more votes. And now he proposes putting an American colony/state on the Moon...good idea in and of itself, but not the best plan at a time when we're overwhelmed by so many more immediate earthly problems. Let's pay off the national debt first, THEN maybe we can work on Moon Base Alpha! This guy Newt Gingrich is so strange. self-deluded and ego-maniacal that he's almost a caricature, like Donald Trump. Stephen Colbert recently called Newt a "sociopathic pussy-hound," which is very funny but also dangerously close to the truth.

If I were a Republican, I'd be praying that Newt doesn't run. I'd be backing Mitt Romney all the way.  Romney is a "lame duck" candidate, too, because as a Mormon he'll never get the Bible Belt or the Evangelicals to like him. Notwithstanding Romney seems to live by the Republican family values in a way that Newt certainly does not. And Romney has common sense, sanity and a fine record of health care in Massachusetts, which ought to count for something.

I think The Obama will get in again. The Republicans don't really have anyone good in their lineup (IMO).

This sounds like a fight topic. If somebody is voting for Newt Gangrich why should they have to explain their reasons why? So they can get trashed? I'm sure they have their reasons just like we have our reasons for supporting Obama.

No, the Newtster is practically a walking definition of the term "megalomaniac".

What I think is interesting, the 16th richest man in the world, Sheldon Adelson, has been able to resurrect the political career of someone who was counted down and out six months ago.

The national election in November is very much going to be about whether 99% of the electorate is going to elect the candidate who represents them or the remaining 1%.  Thank you very much Supreme Court and your Citizens United decision.

And, no, I'm not being sarcastic.

I really don't comment too much about politics b/c I find sometimes it can get out of control. I actually was having a brief conversation to a few of my friends yesterday and they understood where I was coming from...Here's why..sometime in 2008 I was at a party and people I knew were talking about the upcoming election. I thought it would be a good conversation..well..2 people nearly ripped my head apart..all I said was that we need a different direction in this country and you think I committed a crime when I said that..and other stuff people were saying as well to me and then I said I needed to use the ladies room..well I did not go back to them and when they approached me later asked me why I felt that way..I think they were trying to change my mind..I told them let's agree to disagree..well they would not let go..after about an hour I ended up leaving the party. I love my friends dearly but that changed our friendship. I still talk to them and see them but things will never be the same with us again. It is really sad to think after knowing someone for 15 years and I think differently about their views..that would be held against me (at least that is how I feel). I knew from that moment I will/try to never talk about politics again.

sorry to go on and on..and I hope I made sense..Lol

  • Perfect sense and I stay out for same reasons.....so my answer to political comments is NO COMMENT.... PS, I hate election years on the board (well, RL too --- hate seeing all the politicians blowing all the hot air)... will be glad when the election is over regardless who wins. /Gma b@s
  • Thanks..I just wish they would understand..I did not want to start a heated discussion..I just thought we would of been able to have an adult conversation..I never got nasty when I viewed my opinion..I just wished they would of respected mine..oh well. I lived and learned..Lol../Angela
  • I have learned never to discuss politics or religion, those are the two things that will always start a fight, no one wants to hear an opinion different from theirs on these issues. /goldie
  • Very sad that your friends reacted that way. It used to be possible to discuss politics calmly and reasonably but not, apparently, anymore. There's such a huge divide right now between the two parties and so much bitterness on both sides. Understatement

  • Sheila, this history class is real interesting. So far we're learning about the French and British rivalry, the colonies, the seven years war. We are also learning about the French revolution, and age of enlightenment. We're eventually going to learn about all the world wars. We have to write a ten page paper on any subject about history we covered in class at the end of the semester.
  • I'm glad you're enjoying it. Sounds like you have two really interesting courses this semester. Good luck with the paper. /SheilaT

  • I'm with you, Maxine. But I fear there's no one who can beat him/unseat him. I also fear that you and I will be flamed for our views. Last election year, this board was filled with hatred and ridicule of Republicans and anyone who dared to support one. I finally stopped reading/posting here in the spring of 2008 and did not resume until the election and subsequent gloating stopped, several months later. I hope this will not be the case again this year. /starfish
  • I agree with you, starfish.
