Glad they reversed their decision. Planned Parenthood has gotten such a bad rap. I don't know why people don't see that, and only see them for the small percentage of abortions (and they try to discourage them...) I've used PP many times for birth control, for pregnancy tests, for pap smears and even when I had a bad pap and had to have a biopsy and kryotherapy, it was PP that identified it and sent me to the cancer DR for the kryo...which was free but normally would have cost a LOT.

Thanks to all of you who posted here. And it is great news that Komen has reversed its policy. I still stopped by my local Planned Parenthood this afternoon and gave them a check. (Yes, I am fortunate that I live in an area where I can have a "local" Planned Parenthood office--every neighborhood should be so lucky, and, with enough funding and local support, that could happen.)
I don't know if Komen will be able to rebuild the trust they have destroyed; with so many of us now aware of the politics behind this move (special thanks to Mitch for the Wikipedia link), it will take new reasons make me want to donate to them rather than directly to other organizations.

Here's a link to a story about the defunding from earlier this morning, before the news broke that SGK had reversed its decision.

In case anyone needs to be brought up to speed on the situation, from Wikipedia:
Grants to Planned Parenthood The Susan G. Komen organization granted money to Planned Parenthood Federation of America and affiliates. The money paid for 170,000 clinical breast exams and 6,400 mammogram referrals over the past five years at Planned Parenthood.[44][45] Komen had said its affiliates provide funds for screening, education and treatment programs in dozens of communities in which Planned Parenthood is the only place that poor, uninsured or under-insured women can receive these services.[46][47] This partnership garnered criticism from anti-abortion advocates because some Planned Parenthood health centers perform abortions and provide counseling that includes information on abortion.[48]
Break with Planned Parenthood This section documents a current event. Information may change rapidly as the event progresses.
This article or section may be slanted towards recent events. Please try to keep recent events in historical perspective. (February 2012)On January 31, 2012, the Susan G. Komen organization cut its funding to Planned Parenthood, citing as its reason new rules governing the foundation that bar the support of organizations under congressional investigation, in this case an inquiry by Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.)[49] (Planned Parenthood is regularly audited to ensure compliance with the Hyde Amendment: these audits have never turned up any evidence of wrongdoing.)[50] According to Jeffrey Goldberg, multiple persons with inside knowledge of the decision-making process have told him that this rule was adopted only to create an excuse to cut off Planned Parenthood from the Komen Foundation.[51] The move drew sharp criticism from women's health advocacy groups, which said that the Susan G. Komen organization was putting politics ahead of women's health.[52][53] On February 1, 2012, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) both criticized and revoked their support for Komen in speeches in Congress.[54]
Critics point out that Komen's new rules were created after the hiring of its new senior vice president for public policy Karen Handel, who stated during her unsuccessful 2010 Georgia gubernatorial campaign that "I do not support the mission of Planned Parenthood" and who pledged to eliminate funding for breast and cervical cancer screenings provided by Planned Parenthood.[55][56] Komen founder Nancy Brinker is a longtime GOP donor with strong Republican ties and served as ambassador to Hungary under George W. Bush, and the decision came shortly after Komen unveiled a new partnership with the policy-making arm of George W. Bush’s presidential library.[57] Following the decision, Komen's director of community health programs resigned in protest over the grant cutoff.[58]
Komen's decision was applauded by conservative religious and anti-abortion groups.[59] Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) said it was "a welcome, long-overdue decision that will make Komen more effective in the fight against breast cancer."[60] Several newspaper editorials denounced Komen's decision, and Planned Parenthood said that it received more than $400,000 from 6,000 donors in the 24 hours after the news broke.[59]
On February 2, 2012, twenty-six U.S. Senators signed a toughly worded letter urging Komen to reverse its decision,[61] while the American Association of University Women said it would end all collaboration with Komen.[62] On the same day Planned Parenthood said it received a pledge of a $250,000 matching grant from New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg[63] and a pledge of a $250,000 gift from a foundation run by the CEO of Bonanza Oil Co. in Dallas to help make up for the loss of funding.[64]

I refuse to jump into this lynch mob mentality after only one side of the story has been heard. Personally, I believe that both are wonderful causes and I support them both.
I didn't realize that part of my donation to "Pink" was going to Planned Parenthood. I get that PP does screenings, but what does that have to do with parenting skills and birth control?
If it is politics, shame on them, but Pink is a huge organization and they have to govern themselves. Why don't we wait and see what PP is under investigation for and what happens AFTER it is resolved.
