Additional Comments: Hi all.

This is a true story and I'm not kidding.

Lately I've been watching the reruns of The Andy Griffith Show on the TVLAND Channel. Then I went to the Goodwill Store looking for low fat diet cookbooks because I'm trying to lose weight. As I was looking through the cookbook section, I happened to find "Aunt Bee's Mayberry Cookbook". So I bought the cookbook for 2 dollars. It looks brand new so it must have been sitting on somebody's shelf before it was donated.

Yesterday there was a show about Opie's fortune on TVLAND. Opie finds a wallet on the side of a dirt road with $50 cash in it and no identification. He learns that he can keep the money if nobody claims it in one week.

I was looking through Aunt Bee's Mayberry Cookbook and I decided to try some of the recipes in the cookbook. I've been trying to eat vegetarian lately plus fish so I decided to try Otis Campbell's Homemade Vegetable Soup, Houdini Zucchini, and Tuna Taylor Salad. I went to the H.E.B store to purchase the ingredients for these recipes.

As I was leaving the grocery store and going back to my car with my grocery cart, I saw a $20 dollar bill in the parking lot of H.E.B. It was just laying there in the parking lot and nobody was close by. I could not believe it. I picked up the $20 dollar bill and I felt like Opie from The Andy Griffith Show.

Coincidence? I think not.

Love your story.  Finding $20 is the icing on the (pardon this expression) ''cake''. I'm glad you got Aunt Bee's cookbook and I bet you picture her as you're reading the recipes.  I once found $20 too.  I was in a store and there it was lying on the ground. No one was around so I picked it up and that was that.  It definitely made my day although I did feel bad for whoever lost it.

  • Yes, I know what you mean. You do feel bad for the person who lost it. However, this grocery store is in a wealthy part of town so I'm hoping it was someone who can spare $20. I have already been passing it forward to some homeless people standing on the street corners. Holly

I've always liked Andy Griffith, too.  It and The Rifleman are great shows about the love between a father and son.

Congratulations on your finds!  Aunt Bee's Cookbook is quite the collectible.

  • Thanks, Mitch, I have been enjoying watching the reruns. It's a great family show with Andy, Opie and Aunt Bee. Barney Fife (Don Knotts) really cracks me up. His humor is as fresh today as it was back in 1964. Holly

How perfect!  Between you finding money just like Opie, and you finding the money while at the grocery store shopping for ingredients for one of Aunt Bee's recipes, this was truly a Mayberry moment.  Hoorah!

  • SheilaT, I don't think that it is just a coincidence. This is truly a Mayberry Moment. Holly
  • Yes Holly, it was Mayberry Gods. Your genius never ceases to amaze me.

Lucky you! I found $5 once in the parking lot. My sister bought a chair at Goodwill and she took the cushions out to clean it and found a gold chain down in the chair. It was nice, not real expensive but it was real gold. Yea!

I love the old Andy Griffith reruns. I saw one the other day where Opie accidentally killed a bird with his BB gun, she had a nest with babies, so Andy told him it was his duty to take care of her babies, it was so sweet. Andy was a good father.

  • Yes, I love the reruns of the Andy Griffith Show. Andy and Aunt Bee would ask me to donate the $20 to charity. So that is what I plan to do. I have learned a lot from this show. Holly
  • Goldie, I love that episode too. I get teary just thinking about it. -Miss H

That's sweet! I still watch reruns of the Andy Griffith show too. I don't think I've seen that episode though.

  • I feel like Frances Bavier (Aunt Bee) is looking down on me from Heaven and expecting me to donate that money for charity. Aunt Bee would expect me to do that. Holly
  • What a nice thing to do! My favorite episode is the one where Aunt Bea makes pickles that aren't very good, but Andy, Barney, and Opie keep eating them so her feelings won't get hurt. Have you seen that one? -Miss H
  • Miss H I've seen that one many times. I love pickles but squirm each time they take a bite. eom/WE
