Additional Comments: Apparently McDonalds has some new advertisement where they say eating their NEW chicken bite thingys are 'LESS DANGEROUS THAN PETTING A STRAY PITT BULL' So a bunch of people like my daughter who is studying veterinary medicine and ALSO HAPPENS to be PROUD OWNER of a pitt bull mix
came to me and said... "MOM! THIS IS BS!!!" She wanted to take THIS photo! I have seen Now,that MANY others have done the same! (im so old, LOL)
I am against McDonald's and pretty much EVERYTHING THEY stand for (altho I HAVE, taken my kid there...kinda hard not to) Sometimes, myself I LOVE a quarter pounder! THEY fashion it THAT WAY!!! SO WE WILL LOVE IT!!! Bastards!!!
We ALL posted our photos of ourselves with our whimpy dogs! (DEFINITLY, WHIMPY, in my case)!!!!
Just for the record, we rescued Maximus from a shelter when he was found "wandering the streets of Philadelphia" lost and on the verge of certain death! He is the MOST GENTLE GIANT anyone could EVER KNOW!!!

I think the ad was in bad taste and glad they pulled it. Isis, I'm glad you love your dog and all but I'm a bit scared of pitbulls as well. Not always though. A few years ago we adopted a part pit puppy (she was tiny when we got her, just a baby). She was not raised to be viscious but there is something in their breeding (so to speak) that can cause them to turn...suddenly. Ours did. Well, she never attacked one of the kids but she would with the other dog (pyrenees) and nearly killed her. They got along most of the time but if the other dog would try to eat at the same time, she would go crazy and got really viscious and really scared me. My kids were little then and like I said, she never hurt them but I was afraid she might. I was afraid my son might get in between her and the other dog and she might attack him instead. I just won't own a pitbull again. Too risky for me...
Same for Chow's... I love them, my inlaws have had several over the years and they'll be fine till they start getting old then they get cranky...
There are other dog breeds that I would be careful of as well, German Shepard, Doberman, Rottweiller's for example. I think I'd only have one of these from a baby and wouldn't want to adopt a grown one...with few exeptions of course. My friends had a Shepard that was a Lackland reject... he flunked out of guard dog training at Lackland AFB because he was tooo friendly. We recently had a shepard that we got when she was tiny. She was very smart...except couldn't keep her from getting out of the yard and she got ran over.
BUT on the other had, my grandmother used to be a mail carrier and one day when delivering the mail, a dog (don't remember the breed) that was trained to kill got out of it's pen and when she shooed away a small yappy dog that was following her, the killer dog attacked. She threw up her arm to protect herself (which probably saved her life) and the dog tore up her arm and tore off her ear. They found the ear, but it was too late to re-attach.
Anyway, I think I'll stick to dogs that aren't bred to be mean and are rather bred to be gentle (like pyrenees, although maybe something a little smaller...pyrenees are HUGE. LOL)

After hearing the audio of the original McDonald's ad (thanks, Isis, for posting that), I feel that maybe a lot of people jumped to some really high conclusions. In the first place, McDonalds said their nuggets weren't as risky as petting a "strange pit bull." Now, to me, STRANGE is the key word here. Nobody, except maybe Cesar Milan should walk up to any strange dog without realizing there is a risk involved.
McDonald's should have phrased it as "our nuggets aren't as risky as approaching a strange, angry dog," perhaps. I think, even tho it is not justified, that a lot of people fear pit bulls. And McDonald's, or their ad guys, thought that pit bull simile would get the point across. They didn't need to get that definitive to get their point across.
Now that I've said all that, another thought that crosses my mind is that that commercial is just plain DUMB, anyway.
But, hey, this whole situation has done two things:
Made people aware that there are a lot of rescued pit bulls out there (more than other breeds? I don't know.)
And pit bulls CAN be sweet and loving pets.
And all that promotion was FREE! It's almost like McDonald's did the pit bull world a favor. I'm not sure that it helped Mcdonald's in any way, but I don't really think they NEED help.

I’m a bit nervous to post a controversial opinion here, being new and all, but I felt like I had to stick up for Miss B a little bit.The picture was posted in the context of whether or not Pit bulls are dangerous. It wasn’t posted just to share a nice family photo with the dog.Obviously there is a lot of controversy about the whole Pit bull issue and I don’t think Miss B deserves to be slammed for stating her opinion. All dogs bite, but certain breeds are just larger and with bigger jaws and more likely to not let go of their victim, whereas a little poodle or some breed like that you could just kick off. I have friends who had a Rottweiler for about 5 years (I thought he was lovely and came to my house with my toddler children many times) who suddenly chased down and tackled a little girl getting off the school bus. They had to give him away to a farm, where more incidents occurred and he was eventually put down. They are wonderful people, not some psychos who trained him to be vicious – they were heartbroken. After that, I just don’t feel comfortable around those types of dogs and I think Miss B has a right to her opinion, as does Isis deserve respect for taking a stand against McDonalds and standing up for her beliefs. The following is from Wikipedia:

Message: Isis, I never told you how much I love your photo (and your dog) and how much I admire you and your daughter for posting it on the website. You were responsible for getting McDonald's to stop airing the ad! I understand your frustration with Miss. Bear . . . I just figure she is needier than I was at her age. Call me a coddler. No skin off my nose to be occasionally patient with her.

Message: Miss Bear, i am sorry you feel this way. Some people just aren't animal lovers, and that's fine, but I MUST say ...and I'm almost AFRAID to say for fear of the repercussions (you can look up that word later. don't have time to explain it to you)that YOU are EXTREMELY immature. I'm sorry, I SAID IT! I am certain most others know this. It is just a fact that we have all sort of "taken you under our wing" so to speak, (my guess is you will need to look up THAT expression too) but I am DONE with coddling you anymore!! It is certainly fine that you have different attitudes and beliefs other than my own, but I feel insulted by your comments and quite frankly I am ASTOUNDED at the fact that you DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT PLANNED PARENTHOOD IS?????!!! I know you have a TV and a radio and I am POSITIVE you have a computer with the INTERNET!!! ARE YOU TRULY THIS CLUELESS???? Either you are putting on some sort of act or you are just simply dense! You claim to be in your 20's, but you sound like a 12 year old with these statements.
I am certain I will catch much flack for this, but it's only because everyone treats you like a child...AND YOU ARE!!! I KNOW I should know better than to let loose on you like this cause for some unknown reason we are supposed to be coddling you, but with these comments tonight, you broke the camel's back. I'm DONE!!!!
I find your comments offensive to me and I hope that you will no longer comment on any of my threads. Just don't. I promise to leave you alone if I never have to hear from you again. I can't take anymore. please.. sorry...I just simply find your attitudes HIGHLY offensive...so if you can manage to stay away from my posts I would appreciate it!
I know, I can't ask you to not post if you wanna, I'm just sayin' ...you and I ...we don't mesh ok? So let's just leave it at that and I know I sound like a jerk right now, but quite frankly, so do you! I just can't take anymore of this tension.

Message: Pit Bulls are wonderful dogs, my sister has 2 and my daughter has one. They are sweet and gentle. There are alot of dogs that attack people and only a few are Pit Bulls, but they get all the publicity. You never see anything about a Lab or German Shepard attacking anyone but they will. I hate when I hear this kind of BS about Pit Bulls.

I love the power of the social media!! We need to use it for more causes. Look what happened with Susan G. Komen defunding Planned Parenthood? A little Facebook, Twitter, and MediaDomain action and POOF!! -- PP is funded again!
