Fee: I would much rather have an outsider be the host, then the pain is less when TPTB for the Daytime Emmys go on to insult the genre. It is painful enough to see a show that is supposed to promote daytime instead insult it, but they've been doing that for the last several yrs. Seeing someone like La Lucci hosting & having to go along w/the trivialization of soaps would REALLY rub salt into the wounds--new & old. Sadly, picking a non-soap host (or a non-soap fan) shows what TPTB (Corp) & the Academy think of soaps being part of daytime. eom

More than any single host of the Daytime Emmys, I hate what the show has become. The Daytime Emmys used to be about celebrating soaps & the rest of daytime. The last several yrs it has deteriorated considerably, being nothing more than one more venue for brown-nosers to cheer themselves on.The Daytime Emmys used to celebrate the contributions made to daytime by actors, including tributes to those who had passed away in the previous 12 mths. That was pretty much done away with a few yrs ago. The last several shows haven't had any tributes to those who contributed to daytime.
One of the stand out insults was the way that they treated the stellar career of Anna Lee (Lila/GH). This was a woman who had contributed a great deal to BOTH film & daytime in her long career. Her family wasn't even given an opportunity to speak for more than a few seconds, at most, on her behalf when her Emmy was presented. Her son accepted it standing in an aisle, next to his seat! Tacky beyond belief.
There have been SO many actors on daytime who have contributed to entertainment, across the board & then not to be recognized, the Academy should be ashamed of themselves!

I suppose they think we should be grateful that they're even airing The Daytime Emmys. Last year's show was little more than a travelogue for Las Vegas. No clips that the actors submitted, as little focus on the soaps as possible. You can tell how little the soap genre is regarded. The Emmys treat them like an uninvited guest at a party. I really hate how they're treated. LyndaL
For the last week or so I haven't been able to get our CBS station(s), which is suprisingly not so sad for me. I certainly don't feel like I'm missing anything, since my favorite primetime shows are now just reruns. I would like to get MeTv back though. I loved watching the OLD reruns of great series. eom
I don't think the soaps were ever really treated with the respect some of them deserved.it's sad because some of the best acting was on ATWT....mmc...
mmc: ICAM, soaps never really got the respect they should have. However, they were treated much better in the 50's, 60's & 70's--even into the 80's than they were from 1990 onward. The downhill slide really got its start in the mid-80's. The 90's is when TPTB (Corp) started getting ice cold feet & by the mid-90's their general p.o.v. about soaps was pretty negative across the board. I watched an interview on Charlie Rose today w/JJ Abrams & a lot of what he said really applied to the US soap concept. It is a shame that today's soap concept is so far removed from that original vision. He talked about story being the most important thing, over the bells & whistles. Wish Corp. could take notes from him about how to do something successfully! Soaps need someone like him to get back on track. Too bad there aren't a few dozen versions of him so soaps COULD get back to basics & be themselves instead of Corp. trying to make them into something they aren't. eom
