Ellie Snyder (as played by Renee Props).

How's that for a more obscure flashback?  No one's talked about the Snyder clan as a whole around here for a long, long time.

Who was the guy who played Seth?  He was pretty good, too.  Didn't he write for the show?

Hands down my favorite character was Jessica Griffin...until that whole Doc Reese mess. John Dixon is a very close second, and Lucinda Walsh (until the last year of the show) would be third. If Dr. Reid Oliver had been around a bit longer, he probably would have topped the list after a while.

For many, many years, Lucinda was my all time favorite character. Paired with John = no finer match. When Lucinda became Holden's champion -- some of the steal went out of the character (it seemed to me) .... and she became less admirable. By then all my attention and devotion was shifted onto Carly. She brought fire and spirit to the program, and I thought a day without Carly was a day without sunshine. Then came Janet --- just at the right time I thought, for Carly was as dull as dishwater as her daily dialogue (for a few years) became stuck on saying: "I'm sorry Jack.'' Janet was refreshing, one could laugh with her, at her, and cry along with her. It was cool having someone of Italian descent and at last a religion was talked about openly. When ancestry and religion were overplayed it became a bore. But the character was well rounded (if there's a pun in there, so be it,) full of spirit and energy one could feel the electricity pour out from her. She was alive and lively. Along with Emily, she shared most favorite character space.

As for the men: I loved Hal, James, Holden, Dr. Bob, and Damian. Edwardo gave me a million laughs as well as Rick Decker. It was pleasurable looking at Dusty face - there was always a smile hidden deep in his eyes. I wish Grayson good health in mind and body and hope all remains well with him, work-wise. They were all my favorites.. Hunt Block, Roger Howarth, Paul Leyden, all took time getting used to, but they delighted me as well.

Thanks for a fun topic, it's been swell talking about them, - thanks to the actors, these characters came alive and gave us great entertainment.

  • Lila, I think you and I were the only two viewers who liked Janet. I think part of it was that I just hated how everyone piled on her. Also, she had raised Liberty by herself and as a single mother, I identified with her./mm
  • For what its worth, Janet was a great soap personality and I'll never understand the piling of calumnies thrown against her. Really, it made no sense whatsoever for such raw anger to compound itself into something so ugly, and so often. Along with self-doubt, it takes a certain amount of strength and courage to be a single mother - and I thought the writers applied this well by molding Janet exactly the way they did. JP was perfect in the role (IMO.) (Lila)
  • I never hated Janet...she could be annoying now and then but who wasn't.I think Julie Pinson is a beautiful woman as well.....mmc....
  • I loved Janet too. But for me it's the actress---JP could play the most horrible villainess (like she did as Billie on Days---her character drugged and raped Bo)---and I still liked Billie! I don't think I would have liked Janet if she had been played by another actress. I just didn't like her with Dusty. But then I never liked GM's Dusty. The guy is worse than a block of wood. By the way, weren't Janet and Carly more frenemies than enemies?/fran

When I was younger, it was Lisa, Judge Lowell, Ellen, David, Dan, Susan, Kim, John, Bob, Joyce, Grant, Natalie & Jay. As I got older it was James (early), Barbara, Steve, Meg, Tom & Margo.

Towards the end there were just shells of the characters I had loved for decades.

  • PS: I also loved Eduardo Grimaldi & the whole, original, Grimaldi storyline. Claire Bloom was great as the mother-in-law from *ell!! eom
  • For the couple of years the Grimaldi family was featured, front & center - on ATWT, we just didn't have Friday cliffhangers -- we had daily cliffhangers and honestly, I watched on the edge of my seat - in was all so engrossing. (Lila)
