I noticed that high on this personal board, close to disappearing, I posted a topic on the Gulf Coast disaster and vetted charities to support rescue of wildlife.  One of the charities I mention was the National Wildlife Federation.  DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY.  After sending my modest gift, I received a premium (a backpack) with an appeal for more money. I then received another appeal for money.  Then another premium - a coffee cup or something.  I started asking that they take me off their mailing list.  They had already spent my donation on trying to get more out of me rather than on oil soaked pelicans.  I have now responded to five additional NWF appeals, requesting that I be removed from their list.  My last request was mailed 10 days ago and just this week I received another appeal for money along with a membership card. Just FYI but the NWF apparently is in the business of raising money, not helping wildlife.  And they certainly don't employ anyone who can read.

i had the same problem with the humane society of the united states. i sent them money once because i wanted to help and thought it was a worthy cause. but then i started getting requests for more money at least 3 times a month! i mean, i could understand maybe 3 times a YEAR sending something out, but 3 times in the same MONTH? and the stuff they sent costs money to make right? stop sending things out and use the money for the charity!

I donated years ago to this foundation and also found myself getting inundated with $ requests.  It was hard to get them to stop. I think I've moved 3 times since - maybe that helped, LOL!

There are organizations that perhaps do good, but they spend so much time and money asking for $$.  Saint Judes is another one.  Certainly they do good, but they are relentless once you give them a dollar.  There's nothing wrong with accepting their free gifts, return address stickers and greeting cards - and NOT sending money back.

  • Well, I guess you can't blame them for trying to get more money out of you, but I also hate it when you are rewarded for your gift by being hounded forever by them. We give $5 a month to Habitat for Humanity and were received so many emails and letters that I finally told them that if they didn't stop, I would quit giving them anything if they continued to inudate us and that did the trick./mm
