Topic: Honestly, a lesbian storyline!

Additional Comments:

Why oh why would it be a big deal to be a lesbian couple in 2012? 25 years ago that would have been cutting edge. But in this day and age, i fail to see the point!

Isn't there anything else more modern to talk about? This past week was so boring i missed Hope, Liam and Steffy!!! That should tell you something!

Hope there won't be another trio with Rick, Thomas and Caroline. I would have to stop watching B&B. Enough is enough already!

* Hope i did justice to the english grammar, i'm from Québec therefore i'm french.*

IMO, this is a soap not a soapbox.  Don't tell me a couple is a "with it" modern same sex couple and spoon feed me a bunch of political correct junk.

Instead, introduce me to each character, hope they generate some chemistry, and let me sigh as they fall in love and overcome obstacles to fuflill their love.

That's all that I expect from a soap love story, being gay or lesbian is just the papricka /oh that's new and different! .

  • This is exactly why I quit watching and B&B is OFF my DVR till they get to Italy. I am just NOT interested. What happened to Marcus and Daisy anyways? I suppose we won't see them now, till they walk down the isle? What a waste of my time and a once brilliantly written soap! Thomas, Slick and Caro-yawn suck. I do NOT care about Caro-yawn's gay parents- totally new characters- what IS their purpose anyways? Nothing, besides showing up to be gay? This is SO forced and contrived. While so many other incredible characters have been totally forgotten. By the way- if they were going to do a realistic gay story on this show about HIGH FASHION... gee... shouldn't it have been a story about two totally HOT gay men??? ;-( CC
  • CC - just curious, why would it be more realistic for a show about high fashion that wants to do a gay storyline have it be with two ''hot'' gay men rather than gay women? eom-Lioness
  • cleary233 - Differrent levels of ''outness'' might actually be a very real ''obstacle'' that a middle-aged same sex couple might ''have to overcome to fulfill their love.'' ... Just like straight couples, a same-sex couple might hook up, get caught up in love, cohabitate, even marry (privately or otherwise), with one partner thinking that they can change something about the other person over time. And just like with straight couples, maybe that post-wedding change occurs, but often it doesn't. It's like classic ''Dear Abby'': If the person doesn't change before the wedding, don't expect it to happen afterward.) For same-sex couples, how far ''out'' one of the partners is, and with whom, can be one such change that's hoped for, but if it doesn't happen, then it might end-up becoming an ''obstacle.'' ... And for the record, modern ''with it'' same-sex couples also get divorced. - IV

I'm thinking it's going to be more a story about how a middle-aged lesbian like Karen might be out, privately among friends, but not out, completely to everyone, including some folks in her family or certain other people in her life.

If that's the case, then I think it really is a very contemporary, very credible story about how someone in Karen's generation adapted to the reality that she was lesbian.  It's not uncommon for gay people of her age and beyond to still have one foot in the the closet they built for themselves.  Back when she would have been figuring things out, it was often about ''compartmentalization'' rather than being totally ''out'' or totally ''in.'' Even today, not all gay people are comfortable with being totally out. And there's nothing passe or unreal about it.   It's the path they took; the most comfortable road for them at that time; usually because of their life experience, involving when, where, or how they grew up.   And if you listen to their stories, you might find out why.   I could actually bore you with at least three such stories of people I know:  one involving a lesbian and her eldery parents; another involving a gay man's ex-wife and minor children; and a third having to do with another man's career (not even of the DADT kind, where we actually had the government mandating that a gay person compartmentalize his or her life).  But just know - these people exist, and their stories about the choices they made to be either in, or out, or somewhere in-between can still make for good story ''in this day an age.''   After all, they're still alive, they're part of our families, so why not hear about them?  - jmho.

  • Caroline addressed the basic concept you have presented on Mon 5/21 episode in her conversation with Thomas! eom-Lioness

IMO, to give Crystal Chappel a storyline! She played the part on GL and has a huge fan base who are lesbians!

  • Pardon my ignorance, I know that CC was on GL, but did she portray a lesbian character on that show? I'm getting this impression from what you posted, but I could be mis-understanding it. eom-Lioness
  • Initially, no, her character was not a lesbian....I think about the last year or two of the show she came out. Her partner was Hispanic.
  • In the last year or two, CC's character, Olivia, GL, was a lesbian who took a long time to discover her sexual identity. She fell in love with a character called Natalia, and the couple was named Otalia, and had a large following-large enough to help CC launch her own web series, Venice, featuring the actress who played Natalia on GL, in another relationship with Chappelle. She's been pretty successful and won an Emmy for Web Series last year. So more power to Crystal Chappelle, who disliked the restraints put on her relationship with Natalia on GL, because of CBS and Proctor & Gamble's reluctance to show anything more than the two of them tentatively sharing only one kiss. • Check out YT to follow Otalia; it IMO was the best of all the gay/lesbian sl on soaps. For one thing, they had serious chemistry, and in the context of Olivia's life story, it made perfect sense.

**Why oh why would it be a big deal to be a lesbian couple in 2012** Well that's what one would think anyhow but I won't be surprised if there is viewer or advertiser backlash to some degree.  God knows anything goes on daytime tv but gay and lesbian storylines still seem to be too much for some.

In my opinion, last week was a breath of fresh air on Bold & Beautiful. Never, Never, Never in a million years did I think anyone would even utter the words that they miss Hope, Liam and Steffy. Those three have been forced down our throats so much that I can barely stand the sight or sound of any of them.
The show was much more interesting last week.

  • Exactly since all Steffy & Hope have done was contridicted themselves to where they've thrown away their dignities, just so they can hold on to Liam. Even Thomas mentioned how much of a trainwreck it is.

The Bell's have a long history of using their soaps to try to *educate* those who they perceive as redneck, backwards, ignorant aborigines who still *cling to their guns and religion*. I just take it with a grain of salt, as no soap opera will ever determine or influence my beliefs and values.

You are right - in 2012, there are outspoken homosexuals serving in public office, teaching in the schools and everywhere you turn on reality television. So the *shocking* aspect of this storyline seems a little silly.
