Topic: A Mug, French Toast, and Thee...

I was watching the train wreck known as Live with Kelly this morning and watched her join some very large male in making French Toast in a Mug. Now, watching her make any type of food anymore is just painful. She obviously is disgusted by all things edible lately...the only ingredient that brightened her mood about making this thing was the fact that she could use whole-wheat bread in it ''to make it somewhat healthy.'' O-kay...

Anyways, after they made this thing (and she slopped butter or something all over her dress...remember when she used to make fun of Regis' cooking abilities?), Kelly managed to choke down an infinitely tiny crumb of it before making all kinds of faces. She really was horrified by the thought of putting syrup on it before trying it. The large guy seemed to think it was pretty good.

I may make this for Sonny before he has to go to work...looks pretty good, actually...

5 minute French Toast in a Mug

INGREDIENTS:

2 slices bread
1 T melted butter
1 Egg
2 T milk
1 tsp cinnamon
few drops Vanilla

DIRECTIONS:
Melt butter in microwave. Swirl it around to coat inside of mug. Add egg, milk, cinnamon and vanilla, whisk together. Rip up bread and push it down into mug with fork until bread is covered with liquid. Microwave on high for 1 1/2 minutes.

Remove from microwave, add some maple syrup and sprinkle with cinnamon.

You can also do a version in a casserole dish and bake it in the oven.  It's good. I've made it up the night before and then popped it in to bake in the morning.  Good for when you have overnight guests.

  • I've made that three times in the last couple of month. Really good with crumbled bacon mixed in there...eom (ML)
  • We skip the bacon, of course, but add a splash of orange juice. Really tasty! ~i&b

Usually I have GMA on in the background but the minute Kelly comes on it's changed. She just plays too cutsey for me. As for the French toast, wet bread is disgusting to me. If it's cooked, I'm good with it. I love bread pudding but can't make it either.

I do scrambled eggs in a mug and it's good too.
2 eggs 3 T milk (I use half and half) Whip together put into sprayed mug. I also put bacon bits in it. Micro for 45 seconds, remove leave in mug and and mix again. Place back for 30 seconds and that's it. After I put it on the plate I add finely shredded cheese and place back in microwave just long enough to melt the cheese.

  • It really wasn't wet...it was cooked and moist. Pretty tasty...from the bite I could wrestle from him...Our microwave is ridiculous, though. We have to cook things much less than you're supposed to. I think an average 1.5 min would do it...eom (ML)
  • I do Egg Beaters and Laughing Cow cheese in a mug and microwave. It's yummy but you gotta wash that mug with hot hot water quickly because it tends to stick even with being sprayed!! eom fuzzwuzz
  • It does stick. I have one muug that is larger at the bottom so I can get my hand in it.~~Sandy

Kelly has truly become unwatchable lately. As for the French Toast, I guess I just don't get it. It doesn't take any longer to make it the traditional way.

  • That's exactly what I was thinking!!! ~~misspm
  • I agree with you about the show. After my experiment...the only thing that gets dirty is the mug plus a fork. Traditional French toast involves...let's see...a bowl, a fork, a griddle, and a plate...eom (ML)

It kind of grossed me out too, although I don't know if it was because Kelly kept mocking it all morning before they even started, or my own issues.  I kept thinking it would be soggy.

You're right though-the "Big Guy" seemed to enjoy (and didn't even make his right).  Let me know how yours turns out (mainly, if it is soggy) and how Sonny likes it.

  • A very cool experiment. Most interesting aspect...watching the thing GROW out of the mug in the last 10 seconds. Our microwave seems to be at a really high power, so I cooked it for just a minute. Sonny really liked it...not crispy, said he, but light and good...eom (ML)
  • Oh...it's grows put of the cup. I must have missed that part. I walked out of the room during the commercial and when I came back, they were drizzling syrup over them. ~~misspm

Kelly started out as a refreshing change from obnoxious Kathy Lee but has turned into just as obnoxious in a different way.

Has always escaped me how the show was popular as I've never seen the appeal of KL, Regis or KR. (As long as the show has been on, I am clearly in the minority.)

btw, I want French toast now.

LOL, since you attended a wedding in Paris, did you have French toast there?

and I might try that sometime, but maybe in a Corelle cereal bowl.

You can also make scrambled eggs in a mug/bowl-I prefer it in the bowl, the shape is conducive to an egg sandwich.

    Sppray bowl/mug with Pam

Crack egg or two into container, add milk, salt, pepper, etc and then beat with fork.

Nuke for 45 to 1 1/2 mins in microwave (depending on microwave)

I usually check after 45 seconds and beat again to maintain fluffiness!

  • We've always liked scrambled eggs from the microwave. Some people are vehemently against it...then again, some people won't drink tea made of microwaved water, so I dunno. Nope, never had French toast there, but we did have French fries...I always liked Regis. The show is seriously has suffered since he left...eom (ML)
  • Sorry vh I didn't read this before I jumped in. I love scrambled eggs like this.~~Sandy
