FLASHBACK: Woman Producer For Final Weeks Of LOVE IS A MANY SPLENDORED THING 1973

LOVE IS A MANY SPLENDORED THING aired its final episode on March 23, 1973. But before it left the CBS daytime lineup, Linda Fidler Wendell had taken over as executive producer. This article from Daytime TV magazine in 1973 talks about her rise to the top.

"When Linda Fidler Wendell showed up backstage at LOVE IS A MANY SPLENDORED THING in her new capacity as producer in January, there was much excitement. She was the first woman on a daytime serial to start as production assistant, the lowest step of the ladder on the production staff, and rise to the top-producer."

I was a viewer, and if my memory is accurate, I think Donna Mills and Leslie Charleston were in it as sisters. Donna Mills played a nun.  An actor named something Birney was also in it.  Thank you for bringing this up. It's funny, because Donna Mills became known for playing a villianess on Knots Landing, but she got her start playing a conflicted nun, as well as a harrassed girlfriend of Clint Eastwood in a movie, "Play Misty for Me", also starring Jessica Walter, as the stalker of Clint. I can't believe I remember all this stuff.  Memory loss is apparently not threatening me in my old age.

  • I was so surprised that Donna Mills was in this playing a good girl. I will always remember her as that hell cat, Abby Ewing. Lol. (Pittman)
  • And, yes, Leslie Chaleston was in fact on the show as well. Good memory! (Pittman)

I fondly remember LIAMST.  Mostly I remember the great actors that were cast.  Many went on to other soaps & projects in primetime, as well as features.  It was one of the bunch of soaps my aunt & cousins got me hooked on.
