Additional Comments: I was just on the SOW website trying to find out some information on how to get the OLTL Tribute magazine. I cannot find it here in the New Orleans area and ebay has it starting at $20+!!! Sorry, I needed to rant. Anyway, one of the articles mentioned on the SOW website that GH, should it get the ax by ABC, may consider a primetime telenovela premise to keep the show on the air. It is not guaranteed, but it was an idea that was thrown out there. Wish they had done that for OLTL. I would have watched it at night like that. Anyway, thought those of you moving to GH would like to know.

Message: There was a period, in the 90's I believe, where the networks tried bringing their dayparts to primetime, w/disasterous results. Inevitably, all but one soap tried doing stand alone primetime episodes that flopped, as they should have. They were horrible. Trying to make soaps into something they aren't--primetime fare.
Y&R did the best job, because they didn't try being something they aren't. Their episodes weren't stand alones, they were continuations of what was being aired in their regular time slot.
Most of the others tried looking like 'films' w/a technique of processing videotape. A lot of fans didn't like the look or the way the episodes came out.
We already saw the attempt to make soaps into telenovellas w/Port Charles. That failed miserably too. It had a lot of promise when it was simply an extension of GH. Once they started doing the mini-story arcs (ala telenovella) things started going downhill fast. Eventually, ABC thought that picking up on the growing popularity of vampires was a good idea for PC--NOT. By the end we saw vampires & flying monkeys populating Port Charles. No wonder it failed miserably!
