Topic: Question regarding possible feature for these boards

Additional Comments:

Has anyone here ever inquired to the Admin. or M. Gill if these boards could somehow get a Private Message (PM) feature like so many other message boards have?

I happen to think that these MD boards are perhaps the best in terms of how they're laid out (user friendly, ease of use, ease of navigation to read posts/threads) compared to those huge what I'd call mega-boards that are not easy to navigate around and seem impersonal.

It would be great if the MD boards could somehow incorporate a PM feature (not the chat, a way to contact someone one-to-one without having to do it with e-mail).  Anyone know anything about this?  Thanks.

I don't want to be obnoxious so I won't put a separate Topic for this, I hope whoever reads this thread can answer another question I just thought of -- has anyone asked the Admin or M. Gill about getting emoticons (smileys, etc). for these boards?

All I know how to do on these boards is the stuff like   :-) for smiling, :-( for being sad and a few others along this line.

  • Re the PM thing, we don't have that. Michael Gill's email is at the top of the board though so you could write to him & ask him. He's a really nice guy. We've never had the emoticons, but imo MD has (by FAR and away) the best message boards I've ever seen on the internet. So user friendly! I love that you can open a post and read what EVERYone said, rather than having to open up individual posts. The best! Gail
  • Thanks for the reply and I'm glad you're okay, based on the Topic put up asking how you did with the tornados, etc. ITA with the point you made about how easy it is to read ALL the posts in a thread without having to click on individual ones. I'm guessing that there being no emoticons or PM is because of the simplicity of these boards, but of course, their beauty is in their simplicity if this makes any sense, lol !! eom-Visitor
  • Yes, I think you're right about simplicity being the best thing and that simplicity probably does limit the ''perks.'' It doesn't seem all that long ago that we had to use html to post pictures and change font. I really like this forum, but if I could change anything it would be that we would have our individual way to save a complete thread. For instance, if someone starts a recipe thread, we could save the entire thread without having to click on all the internal messages, too. But, we will survive. I had a post a while ago about what kind of boards we could have, considering that soaps are dying and there isn't that much of a need (to an outsider, that's not how I feel) for so many off-topic boards. I don't know if it's scrolled off or not. I had really meant to email michael about that topic. Oh, and Michael is on Facebook, too, so you might check over there. eom/Jenny
  • I don't agree with doing away with the off-topic boards. I left one that had a clique that was always fighting with the people who disagreed with them. That's why I came over here, and I'm glad I had that choice...Blinkie
