Topic: is anyone still watching glee?

Additional Comments: i finally gave up on this show after watching the first 5 minutes of the spanish teacher episode. the problem with glee is that it started to take it self too serious. the show tried to be too many things for their viewing audience, and it became too thin. ryan murphy checked out of glee a long time, but unfortunately the other co-producer (ian brennan) hasn’t step up to the plate. why did he let his baby, his concept, go down the drain like that. the cast is over bloated, and frankly half of the cast was only used in close-up pretending to be happy and elated watching the screen hoggers stealing their spotlight. for some insane reason the writers have decided to make naya rivera (santana) the main attraction, but she isn’t pulling in the ratings, in fact the ratings are tanking left and right. the show is mainly like a concert hour, with horrible written storylines. i feel sorry for the cast because they work their butt off, but they’re not getting the support from the writers.

I'm with Richard.  This is still one of my must see shows.  I too can count on one hand minus the thumb of shows that are must see for me.  The show has it faults as do all shows.  But I can say this:  I would rather countless hours of the worst moments of Glee than I would 5 minutes of Smash.  I know others here flove it, but I'd rather watch paint dry.

  • You know, I kinda felt that way with the first episode, but after I watched 3 or 4 saved episodes in a row I got hooked on the storylines. But hey, to each his/her own ... I can't really argue with you. I just find it has a theatrical movie quality, seems to be authentic as far as the real Broadway process and is kind of a *thinker's show* rather than the pretty superficial *Glee.* -Spell

First season Glee was without peer.  It was well written, had the right amount of humor, right amount of angst, and the musical choices were great.  Since then, its been crap.

My guess is that first season they didn't think it would be hit, hence very few gave Glee the rights to cover their music, and as a result some great show tunes and less heard pop music became the voice of these odd kids and even odder adults.  Also Sue was not such a nut.  I floved pretty much everyone, their storylines and I have every Glee CD, but since season 1, I watch out of a sense of duty and hope, not because its any good anymore.

I loved Kurt first season, now I roll my eyes when he shows up.  Don't get me started about Mercedes.  Other than her losing the West Side Story part sl and the Troubletones, that character has been treated like ish, but I do like her swirl romance.

Will it get better? Let's hope so, because its been renewed.

Glee is still one of the few shows I make a point to see(and these days I can count the number of shows I make a point to see on the fingers of one hand, leaving out the thumb).I have always liked musical-type shows...even a few of the SatAm or Disney ones...and I truly think the cast has tremendous talent. Some shows are better than others and some stories are more memorable than others, but you can't produce award-winning shows every week.

This week's episode was a surprise for me in that Kurt passed his audition and Rachel flunked out.Maybe she should have rehearsed the song at least once before she sang.I feel this just might lead to Rachel staying with the school as a part-time assistant.(I hope so,anyway.Lea Michelle has always added so much to the show and I admit the more I saw Glee the more I saw it for her.:-))

If disappoibntment in one or two episodes always led to my abandoining a show,I wouldn't be seeing anything regularly now.(Chuckle!)

  • Since you like musical shows, Richard, are you a *Smash* fan? I've found it quite addictive and it features really good (adult) actors. Music is very catchy, though there's not as much of it as on *Glee,* plus they're original songs, not covers. -Spell

I lost interest in it a long time ago. It became too ''mutli-facitied'', to be entertaining, IMO.

While it's not quite as enjoyable as it used to be, I still watch.

I guess I've grown accustomed to the stupid stuff that happens for no real reason, for some degree.

Last week's Whitney Houston episode was actually one of the better one's they've done in awhile.  That said, the idea that Will wanted to get married at a KOA campground was just stupid...after all...the theater they perform in belongs to the glee club...why not just use it if you have to rush into a wedding?  Though it was funny when Emma called him on it.

Building episodes around guest stars don't seem to fare real well.  It wasn't his fault, but the Matthew Bomer episode never really got off the ground.  The Ricky Martin episode was just bad.  How do you have Ricky Martin on your show and you blow it?

Anyway, with all the talk about graduation, I'm wondering how they're going to hold onto most of the same cast.  Just have to wait and see.

It's still lopsided and illogical, but I'm still watching.

I heard the other day on the news, that the black girl (can't remember the name) fainted from the flash bulbs when they were being interviewed.

This isn't a show that takes itself too seriously (though it will occasionally deal with less fluffly material - spousal abuse, last night) or focuses too much on Naya Rivera.  Murphy hasn't checked out of the show (though he does also have other projects going on, sure).  Anyway, in the last seven episodes since you stopped watching, there've been good and bad stories and good and bad musical numbers (as always, really).

Last night's big 'uh-oh' was Rachel completely choking on her MIADA audition.  She's shattered (yet I somehow think everything will turn out okay...)

Come on, this isn't "Grey's Anatomy" - it's a musical show which means it's song after song with storylines stuck in-between for continuity.  I've never expected as much from this show as others here have, and I just enjoy the music and the jokes.  And some of the storylines are very sweet.

We are still watching Glee.  I have a tween daughter and we watch it together.  This season has been fun watching to see how they would add in the glee project winners.

  • Must be interesting watching it with your daughter - I'm wondering how you answer all the questions she must have about some of the dialog! That must be a real challenge. -Spell
  • She doesn't really ask too many questions, but I always give her my opinions if something comes up we haven't discussed. She is musical so I think the music interests her more than the storylines. /Meri

I am still really enjoying Glee.  the writing is funny and the singing is great.  The topics can be a little heavy handed at times, but I don't even mind that so much.

It's not perfect every week, but I do find myself looking forward to it and always have the urge to watch it right away when I see it's recorded.  There are other shows that we find ourselves sort of putting off watching on our DVR list and I always think that's a clear sign that we're over whatever show it is.  So far so good with Glee for me.
