Additional Comments:

Here are my picks, which are only my personal opinion of course ...

American Idol:

1.  Colton.  (Sorry, I just don't get his mass appeal ... maybe it's a generational thing since I know the soft-ballard singers are really popular these days.)

2.  Phillip.  (Similarly, he just doesn't speak to me, but I know that's just an individual, stylistic thing.)

3.  Hollie.  (I think she's got a tremendous voice but is just too young, inexperienced and timid at this point ... after some maturing and experience she should have a great career.)

4 or 5.  Skylar.  (Great voice, great stage presence ... though country isn't my favorite genre, I think she has a great career ahead of her.  I just wish she could impart some of her stage energy and confidence to a few of the other contestants.)

4 or 5.  Elise.  (LOVE this woman's voice ... but something's missing, maybe the confidence of someone like Skylar.)

6.  Joshua.  (This guy's voice is AMAZING.  Though, I'm not so sure how ready fans are for a gospel-type voice like his.  If he finds the right music, though, I think his albums will sell like crazy and he has a great future ahead of him.)

7.  The winner, IMO ... Jessica.  (Her voice absolutely blows me away, every week.  How could she have been close to leaving last week??  Made no sense.  Her voice and singing abilities are way beyond her years.  She suffers from shyness and a lack of confidence, though, and I hope can find a way to remedy that before the great career I know is ahead of her begins.)

Dancing with the Stars:

1.  Gladys.  (Sorry, I mean no disrespect for such a great lady!  She's very poised and obviously really tries to get the dances, but I think her energy level is just not up to it.)

2.  Melissa.  (I feel bad for the injuries she's suffered through, but overall I just don't think she's got the ultimate talent & energy the winner needs.)

3.  Jaleel.  (He's really good, has improved a lot over the weeks, but like Melissa I'm thinking he just doesn't have the ultimate talent a winner needs.)

4.  William.  (He's quite good but isn't at the level of a winner on this show, IMO.)

5.  Roshon.  (Love this kid, he has great potential, but I don't think he's quite ready to pass all the others.  Though, with a few more weeks that could change ... )

6.  Donald.  (Great control, is really learning a lot; love this guy.  But there are two others who are better dancers than he is.)

7.  Maria.  (As with Melissa I feel bad for the injuries she's sustained ... but, OMG, what poise she has under the circumstances, what a trooper!  She has an amazing body, great muscle control, real natural dancing ability and a great smile that makes her fun to watch.)

8.  The winner, IMO ... Katherine.  (Who could deny this woman's natural dancing ability??  As her partner Mark said at one point ... or was it one of the judges - or both? ... she looks like one of the pros in her dances, not an amateur.  Fantastic to watch.)

Okay, who are your picks?  I'm sure we won't all agree since many of these contestants are equally talented.

They need to connect to the audience and sadly I think both Jessica and Elise, perhaps the two best female vocalists, are lacking in that area. Skyler and Holly connect better. Holly has a nice voice but lacks depth and maturity. Joshua is the best performer of the men or let's say most exciting. I can't stand Phillip's schtick and don't get what all the fuss is about. Colton has a beautiful voice and becasue of his pretty boy looks thought he'd go far with families and teenaged girls.

Did the clip of him saying he didn't care what the judges had to say air on performance night or did they only show it last night? Becasue if they did show it the night of voting, no wonder he went hoome.

I think technically Jessica has the best vocal range and the most versitility but her song choices haven't thrilled me and her style preference isn't my favorite.

Joshua is my favorite.

I think Phillip should go next, then Holly, then Skyler, Elise, Jessica and Joshua in the final four.

I'd like to see Elise and Joshua in the final two.

  • Yeah, as I recall Colton did say that on performance night, and it kinda shocked me! I don't know, I kinda doubt it changed the voting, though ... I think you either like him or you don't, and a little attitude sometimes even helps them. -Spell

Awww so it's the "you's" out there that I have to thank for Colton being sent home and Jessica remaining! lol

Ummm my order was Colton, Hollie, Skylar, Phillip, Elise, Josh & Jessica rounding out last place. I think the judges are looking for a female to win the competition but IMO they don't have it in this group. Skylar is the closest but there was a country winner last year so that casts a shadow on her. I personally would like to see a female version of Colton. I love what he does to songs. Totally interprets them differently than their original version. That is somehow what the rockers are able to do.. think David Cook, James Durbin, Adam Lambert, etc etc. Haley did that last year to a large extent, which made her my favorite :-) Now that he's gone, I do believe I will be rather bored... Jessica bores me to tears. Sorry, I guess I completely disagree! As for Joshua, I do love his relationship with Hollie and I do believe he can sing but when he gets too Fantasia like I have to close my ears! Still, I like him as a person and better than 'Princess' Jessica.

  • oops, order was for favorites :-) Linds EOm
  • Yeah, it took me a minute to figure out what order you listed them in! Wow, we do have a difference of opinion, don't we? Oh well, that's what makes the world go round, right? Life would be boring otherwise. ;o) -Spell
  • actually this year has been funny because normally I'm totally on the same page with my parents but this year they are opposite my husband and me with who we like. It's definitely more animated at our viewing parties this year! Linds EOM

I don't watch Idol so no opinion there.

On DWTS I pretty much agree with you!  I'd like to see Jaleel and Roshon go before Melissa.  Then Donald and William.  I agree those two ladies should be in the finals because they truly ARE the best dancers!!! I doubt it'll all happen that way because of the fan bases.  What did you think of the duel??  I thought it was great!  About time they do something to weed out the bad dancers with their big fan base.  I love it!!!

  • Yeah, I thought it was a good idea too. Especially after the Idol judges saved someone who should NEVER have been eliminated, it seemed like DWTS needed to do something equivalent, and they did. -Spell
  • well, remember last year when they voted off Pia Tascano. That just shows that the intended concept of this show doesn't work. It's a popularity contest rather than a talent contest, voted mainly by teenagers.
  • I agree with your choices Fuzz. I have mixed feelings about the Duel. On the one hand, it keeps contestants who are good dancers from being eliminated based solely on popularity-but on the other hand doesn't it usurp the vote of the viewers if the judges just override the vote by choosing who they want to go home? ~~misspm
  • Well, it IS the bottom two so no one knows for sure which was actually on the bottom. Right? That's the way I see it anyway. And the viewer votes put them on the bottom. I don't know but I like it. It seems more fair for the better dancers regardless of the fan base. eom fuzzwuzz
  • True. Like I said, I have mixed feelings...I guess if it saves someone I want to stay in the competition, I'll like it, LOL ~~misspm
