Topic: question about ads for new movie *The Avengers*

Additional Comments: Am I wrong or wasn't "The Avengers" a popular TV show (featuring the famous "Mrs. Peel") back in the 60s, which was made into a really bad movie a while back (starring Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman)?  So why now is a new multi-superhero movie coming out with the same name?  Looks like a real lack of imagination to me.

The tv show came first, yeah (1961), but Marvel Comics has used the title since 1963 (and a lot more frequently, since the tv series ended in 1969, but the comic has been ongoing and spawned many spinoffs nearly non-stop over the last 49 years). So it's a half-century old title conflict.

  • Interesting. I'd think they would resolve something like this before going wide with a big new movie. Well thanks for the info, Dax. -Spell
  • Dax) Nothing to resolve, really. There's no confusion in the marketplace about it. Like Spider-Man, X-Men, and the Fantastic Four, Marvel's Avengers have been around a long time... it would be weird if they called it anything else. Going to be fun to see the franchises blended, as this is a bringing together of characters from Iron Man (2008), The Incredible Hulk (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010), Thor (2011), and Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). And written and directed by Joss Whedon... looks like great fun.
