Additional Comments:

I give it a big fat 'F'...  or 0 out of 10.

First off, Maura West was finally fitting in nicely with the characters and on the show.  Then they decide to go kill her off just as we see her gumption.. actually THROWING Phyllis off the desk at Restless Style in the middle of foreplay with Nick: priceless.  Oh well, it was nice to see at least once.

Then the story drags on way too long... I didn't mind the lapse in this story mid-way through but by the end it was insufferable.

The reason this bothers me brings me to the biggest pet peeve of this story. We have all these "suspects" yet we know all along with absolute certainty that none of them are ever going to prison for this.  Gee, talk about killing the suspense.

We also know if by chance one of the main characters DID do it, they will get off scot-free.  We have already seen Sharon and Nikki wringing their hands about Victor spending an extra 24 hours in jail until the paperwork is done.  Poor guy, but I guess that happens when you have confessed to the crime.

Then, there is Nikki who, as another poster stated the other day, is "okay with this".

Actually, the biggest liability of this storyline is that they threw in all these things into the mix yet were totally unclear as to how they would finish the story.  This leaves us with stupid things such as those cushions.  TPTB thinks this makes the story spooky and mysterious, especially with faux-Sheila having sewn them.  Nice try.. actually neither nice nor a try, just sloppy.

I think Abby was the weakest link here.. her annoying whining made me sick. I used to like Abby but now that I see she is back I suddenly cringe.  Too bad Victoria doesn't have that kind of outspokenness anymore.

Once again to summarize, really poor storyline and execution.

F  How many murders does this make where the perp got away

because it was self defense.  It made Diane's death meaningless.

I'll be nice and give it a D - ... Still pretty bad, however.

I've seen some clunker soap mysteries, but...this one takes the entire cake.  Just BAD.  I still can't get over that old-style movie reel-to-reel (?) thing.  Left me speechless.  My rating, negative 10.  Waaaay below sea level.

The murder SL had the potential to be good, except they brought on Pattycakes, had Nikki kill Diane in self-defense, and it was business as usual.

But somehow I think Abby was involved. The character is too much of a dingbat not to be. Maybe Diane wasn't quite dead and Abby pulled her over to the creek?

IMO - It's a tale of too, too manys.

TOO many suspects (all of them the usual ones who are never guilty).

TOO long. This deserves repeating: TOO long.

TOO dependent on whether MTS would take the pay-cut and return, so that we could get on with things. (This should have ended in November sweeps, not February.)

TOO many details - this type of thing can work in a tight, 2-hour film based on a Hercule Poirot-type mystery, but not during a 7-8 month long story. I think the majority of viewers just get bored as more and more things get heaped on.

TOO 'clever' for its own good - This is what happens when you fancy yourself doing ''Murder on the Orient Express'' but your writing is at the level of ''Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated.''

btw - I kind of disagree that Dianejenkins was a bad choice for the victim. While I didn't like what they did to the character and felt sorry for poor Maura West, I think murders on soaps are best when they're of a character the audience has actually known, someone's who's actually had some history with many of the characters on the show. Killing-off virtual strangers like Ji-Min Kim or murdering characters from the A-List come with their own problems, so having someone from the B-list get murdered would be my choice as well.  Furthermore, they'd pretty much wrecked the Dianejenkins character anyway, so no big loss.  And what they can eventually play is that the now-motherless Kyle ABBOTT (being a core family member for the future) is the young victim left behind here; so this murder can inform his character going forward with him knowing, internalizing, that all these characters loathed his mom.

I guess I'm feeling generous today. I'm giving it a D.  Oh wait, make it a D minus.  I'm so sick of Pattycakes at this point.

  • I agree, Laird, too many weak and negative aspects and too, TOO long. This definitely should've ended during November sweeps, not February. F minus .... Joe H

I always liked Maura West (on ATWT) but TIIC turned Diane (under West's tenure) into a Waffle Queen. She acted more like SyPhyllis than the Diane-character I remembered -- chasing & bedding anyone wearing pants (of the male gender, of course). I DID like her rapport w/ the young actor playing Kyle. Other than that, it was a total waste of West's acting talents! JMHO

I give this storyline an F too. They wasted the talents of Maura West completely. They killed off a character they could have used later and was Kyle's mother. Many of the so called "suspects" of course had nothing to do with Diane's murder. And of course this thing as dragged on too long to the point of irrelevance. A messed storyline and worse a messed up murder mystery.

On a scale of 1 - 10, with 1 being soapy goodness and 10 being boring beyond the telling of it, I rate it 7,382.

About those pillows.  Did Patti put those pillows in that room

knowing that Diane was dead and she saw the whole thing

in the park?  Also I knew the moment that MTS returned

to the show that she was the one that killed Diane

and that it would self-defense.  I know they

don't want to get rid of their top stars

in a murder mystery but why go to all this

trouble and then find out hey it was only in self-defense?!!

Of course it would have been worse to hire a complete

unknown and have them be the murderer.
