Topic: Do the writers expect viewers to be sympathetic to Adam?

Additional Comments: The writers made Adam a comic book character by having him rescue characters after he destroyed other character's lives. They should have had him wear a cape and mask.

Message: Well, I like Adam. He is certainly no worse than ANY of those characters in Genoa City ! The main characters are nothing but hypocrites!

Message: I can't stand him. He gets no sympathy from me. However, the old Adam who was a hottie, well, that's a different story.

Adam does not get an iota of sympathy from me. And I LOVE the guy! But he really screwed the pooch keeping his mouth shut when he knew Patty was back and stalking Jack and Gen. He did not find it convenient to reveal the information and now he's found out how inconvenient it will be for him. lol. He should have known better dealing with nutty Pattycakes.
And I don't follow this whole 'redeem Adam' thing. Sure, evolve the character, but don't redeem (I, too, hate that term)
Why 'redemption'? For example, Todd Manning on OL was never redeemed, and I argue his list of crimes (rape, murder, assault, kidnapping/imprisonment, blackmail - and those are just a few. I could make a very long list!) were much worse than Adam's (to date). Todd was the town pariah - hell, he even got blamed and convicted for crimes he didn't commit! Even his wives/ex-wives had despised him at times. His own kids would often hate him! He was a sociopathic jerk (both TsJ and Roger Howarth's Todds). He treated those he loved most like crap. And remained petulant and manipulative through the final minutes of the show.
Anyway, my point is not to compare the personalities of Adam and Todd, just pointing out that really good sociopathic jerks needn't be redeemed. They just need to show some nuances and depth (which MM does exceedingly well as Adam).

If Soaps were your business would you care as long as people keep watching? Its not like a full length film that costs millions hires big name stars and takes years to complete.
Love or hate, all that matters is are people watching?

Hopefully the writers have decided to simply write the story as opposed to making Adam "acceptable" to the anyone.
They know how fickle Daytime audiences are. ...you can love a rapist or serial murderer...but somehow a character like Adam Newman must be made ACCEPTABLE??
Puh leeze.

Message: Yes, I think they do...which is beyond comprehension, but somehow I think after bringing Adam on and turning him into the scum of the earth, they thought all they had to do to reverse course was write him in a few scenes the complete opposite of what they'd written for him before and viewers would just accept him in whatever way these gawd awful show planners wanted. Personally, I stopped watched Adam scenes after they threw Sharon (the woman whose baby he stole and kept from her) on top of him and seemed determined to "go there," a place they should never, ever have gone after what the writers had Adam do to Sharon. I waited a bit to see if they'd turn it around and have Sharon take Adam down like I wanted her to do. But when it became clear that they show actually meant for them to be each others' soul mates, I quit watching either character. But yes, someone at YR has the hots for Adam and is determined to cram him down come heck or high water. It's stupid beyond stupid, but it what it is. Of course, I could care less anymore. While I still follow the boards, when they threw Sharon on Victor, I gave up YR altogether. Can't say I miss it. When I read here, I get the impression that, though it seemed before that the show couldn't possibly get worse, it somehow always does.

Does it really matter in the bigger picture, if Adam is redeemed or not?
It's not like Adam is going to save Y&R from it's eventual fate.

Yes, they do. The powers are DESPERATE to make Adam likeable. They have largely succeeded, but they seem to be obsessed with shutting down the Adam haters who KNOW that:
a) Adam has too many crimes to be redeemed
b) The only reason Adam saved Sharon's children was because the writers needed a quick reason to say "SEE, Adam isn't so bad."
and
c) Those anti-Adam viewers aren't going to be convinced he is redeemed because of unlikely script contrivances that, furthermore, reveal nothing about Adam's ultimate character. Nick (Thank God) is not stupid enough to fall for Adam being a nice guy just because he was in the right place at the right time to save Noah and Faith.
My guess is we will continue to see anything and everything thrown at us to redeem Adam but the writers really need to stop brainwashing those viewers who are a lost cause and know that TPTB went too far to bring him back. Apparently, there are enough Adam fans. Thing is we need to leave the Adam haters alone, because they are entitled to their opinion, and that opinion is WELL justified. THE END!

Message: Maybe Adam's current crisis will be a turning point for the character. I hope so. I'd hate for Adam to end up as cartoonish as his old man. Adam will never be a saint, I think, but perhaps he could be more like Jack, Michael, or Tucker than Victor. In other words, capable of villainy now and then but with a nobler side as well. I've been saying all along that we need to see more of Hope in her boy.
