Topic: Genevieve Being Damaged Goods

Additional Comments:

Genevieve explained to Cane why she sabotaged her relationship with Jack. I have to say that her explanation made so much sense. Especially the "losing herself to the whims of a man" thing. Indeed, women on the show defining themselves by their men has been a recurring gripe on this board.

Despite her age, Gen is apparently a novice at the couple thing. Her marriage to Colin and Samantha's death have left deep scars on her psyche. She is "damaged" and damaged folks are incapable of having healthy adult relationships. She and Jack never stood a chance.

By acknowledging that she is screwed up, perhaps Gen can work on herself and one day find her way back to Jack. But with her son dumping her, and Goat entering her orbit because of BON, it looks like it will take Gen a while to get there.

I agree with the original post. She sabotaged her relationship with Jack because that is what she is used to dealing with all her years with Colin. Now, it's almost as if she has to ruin anything good before it ruins her. I can see the psychological take on it.

Gen obviously did not really know Aunt Jack at all.  Was she around for any of his Scarlett O'Hara moments when he was practically declaring as God as my witness, Jabot will be mine again? She hadn't noticed at all Aunt Jack's singlemindedness when it comes to Jabot and then his piece de resistance, BoN. She hadn't noticed at all ol Jackie's penchant for the dramatic?

She clearly underestimated his power to channel Miss Joan Crawford (as others well pointed out, in Mildred Pierce)? And clearly did not realize how this move on her part would send Aunt Jack into a classic diva tizzy.

God, are we going to see the old Goat entering yet another marriage?

Actually, Genevieve might be the first woman to give him a run for his money.  She's not intimidated by him in the least, and wouldn't think twice to put him in his place.

Anyway, I agree about Gen, and think GF has transitioned beautifully in the role (shocker).

If Genevieve really wanted to buy a company for her own financial independence, or in memory of Samantha (both sound reasons), she could've bought something other than BON.  The very company she knew her fiance had his heart set on.  I don't blame Jack for feeling betrayed.  Gen has seemed saner since unloading Colin but maybe she's still nuttier than she looks.

  • It sesems she really does not understand the word ''betrayal''. Jack told her what he was bidding and she bid higher. What a betrayal to a man she supposedly loves when she knew how much he wanted BON. How could he ever trust her after such an action? Obviously, he can't and cerainly could not marry her after thata kind of behavior. - Paula

Just to show how off base I was at the end of today's show

when I heard that romantic Mediterranean music at Gen's I was actually kind of wishing

Colin was there waiting for her.  But of course that won't ever happen

again.  I guess Colin and Gen made a deeper impression on me then

    Jack and Gen have.

she could have bought any company to make her 'her own woman.'  Didn't have to stick the knife in Jack's back by taking the one company that he wanted so badly.  That was just rude, crude, and mean.

  • Jack could have bought any company he wanted. He recouped Jabot, his Daddy's company. He only wants BON to stick the knife in Victor's back. /fitz

I don't think Gen is screwed up. I think she's used to hearing Colin say that about her, which is typical for an ex-wife in a bad marriage.

Like Cane pointed out the other day at the hospital, Tucker et al. do the things way worse than Gen in business operations.

    I think they're just jealous. :)
