My dad built an oak spiral staircase in their home. It is beautiful.
I thought that ribbon staircase was pretty cool. The stairs going to the top of the dome in St Peter's in Rome are not for the claustrophobic. Here is a link to some images of those.

I remember leaving the top of a lighthouse. I had a camera around my neck. I felt like I had everyone behind me going slower than they wanted to because I was so afraid of falling down the stairs. I do not mind going up spirals, but coming down is another story.
The same thing happened to me in a lighthouse! I have bad depth perception and the steps were very steep and the ceiling low at the top. eom/Joly
