Article states that supermodels from the past like Cindy Crawford and Paulina Porizskova would be considered plus by the latest standards. Crazy!

First off, let me emphasize that I'm NOT defending the practice of using ultra-thin models. And I'm certainly not implying that Cindy Crawford and the others mentioned are too large; quite the contrary the last I saw pictures of any of them. However, there are some things to keep in mind when talking about women's clothing sizes.
For one thing, sizes keep getting smaller. What is considered a 6 today was marked as a larger size in past years. Remember when you never heard of clothes labeled size 0 and 2? The clothes didn't get smaller -- the sizes did. I used to collect vintage clothes and had dresses, skirts, etc. that fit me perfectly and were marked size 10. At that time, I was what would now be a size 0. Occasionally, you hear people claiming that Marilyn Monroe was a size 14. Maybe so in 1950-something, but in today's sizes a 14 would be a size 6.
Also, a lot of designer clothes are cut even larger than regular brands for vanity purposes. If someone's going to spend $4,000 on a dress, they're going to want it labeled size 2 instead of size 8. I've tried on designer clothes that were labeled my normal size and practically fell off me. In fact, recently I was shopping and came across a size 4 designer dress that should rightfully have been labeled a size 10. So if the fashion police claim that a model is too big at size 6 they may be talking about a ''vanity size'' size 6 (although I still can't see those models being even a ''vanity 6'').
The whole sizing thing is a joke and so insulting to women. Next thing you know, everything will be labeled a 0 and then they'll have to come up with negative sizes.
