Don't blame them for stopping until the offender turned it off.

My boss is one of those people who wears their cell phone as an ear attachment. I don't like going anywhere with her because her phone rings incessantly. It is her husband or son every time, not business. In restaurants, walking down the street, in shops. That phone is plastered to her ear. We cannot have a conversation. Drives me absolutely nuts! Then we get into an argument when I tell her how annoying it is. Perhaps they should have a cellphone check similar to a coat check at functions such as the opera or symphony.

  • that is plain rude, Liz! How do you keep from strangling him? I hate it when I am out with people and they are on their phones almost non stop. eom/Joly
  • My boss is female. I like her a lot & we are friends but this cell phone etiquette is making me want to strangle her. LOL! My best friend, who is truly one of the best mannered people on the planet, texts her adult children non-stop. Even when we are out eating dinner or in a store together. If my phone rings in public, I check to see who it is. If it is a call I need to take, I get up & go outside. Otherwise, I silence it & let it go to voicemail & call them back when it's more convenient for me. I don't go to the movies very much but I leave my purse in my car if I do & leave the phone in it. I got along just fine for about 40 years without a cell phone & will no doubt survive the next 40 without having it sewed to my ear......................Liz

I HATE it when people don't silence their phones in public, especially during performances. You'd think people would know by now that that is completely unacceptable.

  • During War Horse the people in front of me had their cell phone ring loudly. Then they answered and texted the next 10 minutes. eom/Joly

In regards to cell phones, so many people just are rude and inconsiderate of others around them. They seem to think that it is acceptable to take calls when it interfers with other peoples right to enjoy an activity.

As far as I'm concerned the ushers dropped the ball on this one. The patron should have been shown the door, no questions asked.
