Additional Comments: I am being treated for hyperthyroid with radioactive iodine. I have to be isolated for 48 hours. I am on hour number 4 and I am bored to tears! I am watching cooking shows, which my husband hates, so that is fun! Anyone else ever done this? Not the cooking shows, the radioactive idodine...............

Been there, done that. I had 'Graves Disease' in 1977, an overactive thyroid. Rather than more dangerous surgery, I had the radioactive iodine. Back then, things were rather loose as far as treatment. I went back to work with just the warning to not be close to children under the age of 12. Great, I was working in the children's room of the local library. Needless to say, I spent the next few weeks typing and doing 'non contact' work.
The treatment was rather easy, I just drank a 'cocktail' of iodine with water. It tasted rather salty but not unpleasant. I had to sit with a special container in case I got nausious and threw up..had to throw up in a radioactive proof container..lol. No problems. Just went back to work but like I said, no contact with children. couldn't sleep with hubby for a week either.
Now, I'm hyper thyroid and have to take thyroid replacement pills as it's almost impossible to guage how much of the gland is destroyed by the radioactive iodine. No big deal, thyroid pills are cheap and I'm in the habit of taking my pill first thing in the a.m.
