Well, they're not going for historical accuracy with this series, are they? The last episode on BBC America shows Henry VIII marrying Catherine Howard. The real Catherine Howard was about 17 at the time. Henry was almost fifty and weighed around 300 pounds, lol, nothing like Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
Still, it's an enjoyable show. The production values are great. I particularly like the costumes and the women's hair. (Perhaps I should say "wigs".)
The cast is good and there are some new faces. Or they were new when the show was originally on Showtime.
Anyone else a fan?

Message: I enjoyed the Tudors very much. I'm now following Downton Abbey which is another period piece, with a great ensemble of Brit actors. The costumes are not as lavish as the Tudors, but still nice to look at, and so are the sets.

Message: I loved it, but yeah...not terribly accurate! I looked up some of the actual history out of curiosity also. I think I read that they wanted to put Jonathan Rhys-Myers in a fat suit to more accurately portray the appearance of Henry VIII but he said no way. I'm watching The Borgias on Showtime on Demand now which is similiar to The Tudors.

Message: It's on my long list of things to watch, from Netflix. I recently joined the service, and I no longer have any TV service at all. (I'm saving almost $140 a month -- free Internet in my loft, I ditched the landline and I haven't ever bothered to get TV service).
So I'm now ordering series and catching up in one fell swoop. "The Tudors" will be on that list.
Mitch, did you ever see the series "Rome"? It's spectacular. I suspect you'd like it if you haven't watched it.

Message: Love love love the show! But there are a LOT of historical inaccuracies, and I made it a habit after every episode to read up on it and find the truth.
Besides Henry's obesity, he also had that festering leg wound that smelled terrible. It's been a while since I've seen the show but I believe Ann of Cleeves made some reference to him smelling bad. He really would have been quite unappealing.

We watched it on Showtime. It was a fun watch. Anything with Henry the 8th has to be good! LOL
If you like history drama did you catch Hell on Wheels on AMC? It is about the building of the railroad across the west. The last episode for the season was Sunday. If they rerun it I would recommend it.

Message: Oh yes! I started watching during Season 2 and finished out the series. If it's on TV, I'll still watch an episode here and there. BBC plays reruns quite often. Even though it wasn't historically accurate, I enjoyed it very much. Henry Cavill is something else!! Can't wait to see him onscreen in the new Superman movie.

Message: What a coincidence, Mitch, I've been watching The Tudors online all week, whenever I get a chance to catch an episode. I've done a lot of reading about this period of English history and I've been completely hooked. A note to other history buffs--the story is liberally sprinkled with fantasy. King Henry is a young, handsome stud with not a hint of corpulence. The women, with rare exceptions, are soap opera beautiful and hot to trot anytime, anyplace, any which way. It's almost campy. Still, I really enjoyed what I saw so far (only one more season to go). Someone paid a lot of attention to the period costumes, sets, and music, which alone make the series worth viewing. Most of the actors do a great job inhabiting their characters. Nice to see someone else who appreciates the series.

Message: I've watched this show as I do with a lot I've seen on the BBC. It's amazing how much good tv's on now..you need a spread sheet to keep track. No one does drama better than the BBC..must be that "Shakesphere" trait. (just made that part up..lol)
